We reached the last round of the Liga MX qualifying phase. Ten teams have already won their places in the knockout stage, but another 6 clubs are still fighting for the two remaining positions. Santos (11th) and Pumas (12th) need to win their games to secure the classification. Only Necaxa and Mazatlán (penultimate and last place) have no mathematical chance of moving on to the next stage.
After beating Mazatlán away from home, and seeing América (2nd) draw with Pumas, Monterrey confirmed first place in Liga MX, increasing the distance to 6 points over its rival.
At such a decisive moment in the season, all teams know that a negative result can be irreversible. Winning and increasing the points tally by three is the simplest way to get a spot for the knockout phase.
