The beautiful Argentine city of Mar del Plata is preparing to welcome back, after two years, the world tour of the World Surf League with the Rip Curl Pro Playa Grande Argentina. This prestigious South American event will be between April 13 and 16 at the Biology Club, in Mar del Plata. This will be the eighth edition of the event, and it is in charge of opening the 2022-23 season of the WSL Latin America with a men’s and women’s QS 1000 stage.

The Rip Curl Pro Playa Grande Argentina will host men and women from several countries, such as Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina.

The Best Contenders – Rip Curl Pro Playa Grande Argentina – 2022 Surf – Men’s & Women’s

Top 2 Men’s

  • Alejo Muniz

The Brazilian Alejo Muniz arrives at this Rip Curl Pro Playa Grande Argentina with the mission of once again being part of the highest category of surfing worldwide, the Championship Tour, from which he has been away since 2018. After this, Alejo has been competing between the QS and the Challenger Series each year. However, hasn’t been able to get back up the points to be part of the CT.

His best result last season in the Challenger Series was 5th place in the MEO Vissla Pro Ericeira. There he scored a whopping 5,000 points and was beaten by Imaikalani deVault.

  • Raoni Monteiro

The experienced Brazilian surfer, Raoni Monteiro, comes to this Rip Curl Pro with two main objectives, the first is to prove to himself and all the fans that at 39 years old he is still at the top of his condition. Meanwhile, his second objective is to return to being part of the CT, where he was for 4 years.

After almost 4 years of inactivity, Monteiro returned this year and had a poor performance in the Layback Pro. There he finished at #65.

Top 2 Women’s

  • Dominic Barona

One of the favorite surfers to win this Rip Curl Pro in its women’s category is, without a doubt, Dominic Barona. The Ecuadorian has just played an exceptional year 202. However, her performance fell when she entered the Challenger Series.

Dominic participated in 3 events in the Challenger Series in 2021 and her best finish was #17; at the US Open of Surfing Huntington Beach presented by Shiseido, where she scored 2000 points.

  • Ornella Pellizzari

Finally, we have the oldest surfer who is active throughout the world, the Argentine Ornella Pellizzari who, at 52 years of age, arrives at this Rip Curl Pro Playa Grande Argentina with the aim of being, for the first time in her career, in the Challenger Series and prove to herself that age is not a barrier for this type of competition.
