At the time the world was created, Barbados was given a great deal of potential to become a surfer’s paradise. The location of this beautiful island in the Atlantic Ocean allows the waves to travel thousands of kilometers at the bottom of the sea to finally discharge all the energy that it developed during its long journey through the coral reefs of Barbados.
The Barbados Surf Pro will take place from Tuesday 28th March to Sunday 03rd April 2022. Both the men’s and women’s competitions will take place at the Soup Bowl in Bathsheba, St Joseph. We will have the opportunity to enjoy more than 200 surfers from South America, North America, and Europe.
This event is the one that will close the QS of North America; it will be a very hard-fought and great competition.
In each season, a QS regional champion receives the crown. Now, that title carries more weight, since, with the tours and competitions of the new format implemented by the WSL, these regional competitors qualify for the Challenger Series, which is the step before they can fulfill their dream of belonging to the Championship Tour (CT).

Top 2 Men’s
- Gabriel Villaran
The Peruvian Gabriel Villaran comes to this competition as one of the most experienced surfers in the championship; so he must take advantage of this to try to finish in the first place. Villaran wants to repeat his debut year (2008). Then he managed to demonstrate an exceptional level that allowed him to be part of the Championship Tour in 2009.
This Barbados Surf Pro will be Gabriel’s first competition this year. Now he hopes to finish it by scoring as many points as possible.
- Giorgio Gomez
The Colombian Giorgio Gomez will try to improve his participation in these first-level events to advance for the first time in his career to the Challenger Series, where he could show all his potential and qualify for the CT.
Gomez comes from finishing in 49th place in the two events he has played in this 2022, the SLO CAL Open at Morro Bay and Ron Jon Quiksilver Pro.
Top 2 Women’s
- Isabela Saldanha
The young Brazilian Isabela Saldanha, who has only been a professional in this sport for 4 years, wants to show that she has Brazilian surfer blood in her veins and that she could become one of the greatest exponents of surfing in the world. - Shelby Detmers
Finally, the Mexican Shelby Detmers comes to this competition as one of the favorites to win first place, mainly because she comes from being part of the Championship Tour in 2021, the Corona Open Mexico presented by Quiksilver, where she played only one tournament, but, managed to finish in position #17, adding 1045 points.
