We are on the eve of the Tampa Bay Downs and, like every year, we will have the classic Sam F. Davis Stakes 2022, which is a 3-year-old Thoroughbred horse race on a dirt track that has a distance of 1.16 miles. This is a point’s race that is part of the “Road to the Kentucky Derby”.

The Sam F. Davis Stakes is the precursor to the $400.00 Grade 2 Lambholm South Tampa Bay race to realize in March.

While we don’t know which horses will enter the 2022 Sam F. Davis Stakes, we do have Rattle N Roll, the horse that won the Grade I Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity on October 9, and Make It Big, the who has a perfect record of 3 wins in his 3 races, are the ones who lead this list of 48 nominations, which will be the preparation card for the Tampa Bay Downs on February 12.

These nominations for the Sam F. Davis have on the list 8 horses trained by the member of the hall of fame Todd Pletcher, who has managed to be the winner of this race six times, the most recent being in 2016 with the horse Destiny. His two best exponents for this race are, without a doubt, Mo Donegal, who won the Grade II Remsen Stakes on December 4 at Aqueduct, and Emmanuel.

The main candidate to win this race is, without a doubt, Rattle N Rod, a colt bred in the city of Kentucky and trained by Ken McPeek, who, as we mentioned, won the Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity with a difference of 4 and a half lengths.

Following this win, the colt was given a well-deserved rest and earlier this month he recommenced his training at Gulfstream Park, running 3 furlongs in 35.67 seconds.

While the other colt with a strong chance of taking the win in this race, Make It Big, is a colt from Florida and its trainer is Saffie Joseph Jr. Make It Big won the Ocala Stud Juvenile Sprint Stakes and the Remington Springboard Mile Stakes, masterfully.

Finally, we have Emmanuel who in his debut at 3 years old achieved an excellent victory in the sixth race, which was a true spectacle that made all the fans who watched the race enjoy it.
