The Northern Trust, formerly The Barclays, is a golf tournament on the PGA Tour that rotates between the New York City area and the Boston area.
Since 2007, it has been the first tournament of the playoff system for the FedEx Cup.
The field is limited to the top 125 players on the FedEx points list for the regular season.
For the 2021–22 season, the tournament was relocated to TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee with FedEx as the new title sponsor; the event was renamed the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Event Overview – FedEx St. Jude Championship – 2022 – PGA Golf Tour
Taking on a new look from just a year ago, it is no longer The Northern Trust that will kick off the postseason, rather the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind ushers in the festivities.
A long-standing host venue on the PGA Tour, this par 70 design will welcome the top 121 players to Memphis, Tennessee, this week.
Eyes are drawn to the top of the standings, where world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler sits at the top of the mountain.
Enjoying a strong spring that saw him capture the Masters and three other victories, he has built a large lead over the likes of Cameron Smith, Sam Burns, Xander Schauffele, and reigning FedEx Cup champion Patrick Cantlay.
The 2022 FedEx Cup Playoffs begin this week with this event, as Tony Finau is looking to defend his title from last season’s FedEx Cup opener.
Finau recently won back-to-back tournaments on the PGA Tour, so he is in good form heading into this event.
