Premier League Matchday 21 Roundup and Results

Last Updated on January 23, 2023 8:00 pm by Erwin Noguera

The matchday 21 of the Premier League showed that the teams at the top of the table remain firm in their goals and that they also need to improve their performances as soon as possible so as not to fall behind.

Manchester City beat Wolverhampton 3-0, achieving the widest result of the round, but the one who really surprised was striker Erling Haaland, who scored all the goals in that match and reached an incredible 25 goals scored in 20 Premier League games.

Arsenal won again and remained at the top of the most competitive league in the world, while Tottenham beat Fulham 1-0 in a highly disputed match.

Arsenal, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Manchester United remain the top four teams in the league, while Bournemouth, Everton, and Southampton make up the Premier League’s relegation zone.

Liverpool and Chelsea played a game worthy of two teams that are in the middle of the table. Even playing at home, Liverpool saw their opponent create good goal chances, leaving fans apprehensive about the team’s recent performances.

The draw also showed just how important Van Dijk and Firmino are to Liverpool. With these injured athletes, Jurgen Klopp’s team had to use players who haven’t played for many minutes this year, misconfiguring Liverpool’s game system.

Chelsea went to the field with the main team, pressed, and created chances, but demonstrated, once again, that they need better-defining players. Midfielder Jorginho was mainly responsible for starting the Blues’ moves, but his technical quality was not enough to make Chelsea win this game away from home.

City beat Wolverhampton 3-0, one round after the victory over Tottenham and the public criticism that coach Pep Guardiola made of the team. In this match, Haaland showed that he can be the greatest goalscorer in Premier League history. The Norwegian striker reached his 25th goal in the league and could reach a historic number if he maintains that average until the end of the championship. Manchester City is 5 points behind leaders Arsenal, who have a game in hand.

Arsenal was the big favorite to win this game, but nobody expected such a complicated match against Manchester United. Rashford opened the scoring for the visitors, and Arsenal turned the game around, but United equalized the match again with a goal from Lisandro Martínez at 59′. At 90′, with the match almost over, Nketiah scored Arsenal’s winning goal, which kept the team at least 5 points ahead of Manchester City. The Premier League is still exciting!

Coming as favorites then again due to their impressive form, Newcastle draw again, this time against Crystal Palace for the last game of Saturday. Although it was an ineffective match at both ends, Nick Pope shined again, and the Magpies can boast an impressive record of 12 games without receiving goals this season, and they have just 11 goals against, being one of the best defenses in Europe at the moment.

Still, they need to be careful, as if the lack of punch in attack in recent games extends, their status as a top 4 team could be at risk.
