Ligue 1 Matchday 5 – Preview and Free Picks

Last Updated on August 29, 2022 3:10 pm by Erwin Noguera

This Sunday ended matchday 4 of Ligue 1 in France, where all teams played their respective matches with the mission of getting 3 points to help them fight to be at the top of the standings, and, now more than ever, they can do it, after the dangerous PSG drew their match against Monaco.

This draw for the Parisian team ties them at the top of the table with two very strong and dangerous contenders, Marseille and Lens, all with 10 accumulated points. They are followed by Lyon, Lorient, LOSC, and Auxerre, with 7 points, but it should be noted that Lyon and Lorient have played one game less than the rest of the teams.

At the bottom of the table is Ajaccio, who have only been able to take 1 point out of a possible 12 at the start of the season.

As will happen in some of the main soccer leagues in Europe, Ligue 1 will play its 5th matchday in the middle of the week, being these calendars so tight to try to play as many matches as possible before the 1-month break that we will have in November-December due to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

This matchday will be played in full this Wednesday, August 31, 2022, with 5 matches at the same time, where Lyon vs. Auxerre and Lorient vs. Lens stand out, which have started the season very well and promise to give great games. Then we will have PSG visiting Toulouse, and Marseille hosting Clermont.

Next, we will have a preview of the 4 best matches that we can enjoy on this new Ligue 1 matchday.

The highlight of this matchday will be the game between Paris Saint Germain and Toulouse on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at the Parc des Princes, home of PSG, to close this round of Ligue 1.

The current champions of Ligue 1 and one of the teams with the best squad of players in the world, PSG comes to this matchday 5 sharing the first place in the standings with Marseille and Lens, the three teams have the same record of 3 wins and 1 draw, for 10 points out of a possible 12, but PSG has the incredible statistic of 18 goals scored in only 4 games played and that is why they are first.

PSG comes from an extremely difficult match in their last matchday at the Parc des Princes against Monaco where they could not get beyond a 1-1 draw on the scoreboard. In this match, Monaco scored the first goal in the 20th minute through Kevin Volland. While PSG equalized the match in the 70th minute when Neymar converted a penalty.

On the other hand, Toulouse did not start the season as they would have dreamed, but they still managed to get 5 points out of a possible 12 to be in tenth place in the standings, only 2 points away from fourth place.

Toulouse had played 3 very good matches in the first three rounds, but in their last match, they were crushed by Nantes with a score of 1-3. In this game, Toulouse started winning after scoring a goal in the 15th minute, but then they could not resist the onslaught of the home team and ended up losing.
