Ligue 1 Matchday 1 Preview and Free Picks

The Ligue 1 returns to the ring where all the teams will be fighting against Paris Saint Germain, the great candidate to become champion of France again.

Paris Saint Germain is lord and master of the French league, winning 8 of the last 10, and wants to continue that supremacy. Clermont Foot 63 will be the first rival in their path.

Marseille, runner-up last year and who haven’t won the title since 2010, wants to fight against PSG again and, why not, beat them this time. It will open the league against Stade de Reims.

Monaco, who broke PSG’s hegemony a few years ago, dreams of doing it again, and Strasbourg will put them to test this weekend.

For its part, Rennes, fourth last year, will be playing in the Europa League and dreams of making a good league again that will allow them to continue in international competitions. It will be debuting this season at home against Lorient.

There is not much to talk about Paris Saint Germain. The current champion of the French league also comes from winning the French Super Cup after beating Nantes 4-0, and without Kylian Mbappe, who finally stayed in the team and is the best “reinforcement”. Neymar scored a brace and Messi scored another goal in the Super Cup, and together with Mbappe, they promise to throw a party in every game. In addition, Renato Sanches is close to becoming a new player at the club.

Clermont will play its second season in Ligue 1. Last year it was very close to being relegated, and for this year it has been reinforced with several players who arrived free. They will debut at home and play with the most difficult team to start, so they hope to take advantage of the fact that PSG comes with less pace of play to get a positive result.

A good game awaits us this Saturday when Monaco visits Strasbourg. The team from the Principality finished third last year and this time they are looking to fight for the title. Among their main reinforcements are strikers Takumi Minamino, who arrives from Liverpool, and Breel Embolo, from Borussia Monchengladbach.

Strasbourg was one of the main surprises last tournament, achieving sixth place and remaining very close to qualifying for the Conference League, just three points behind. For this year they suffered the losses of Guilbert and Caci in defense but were reinforced by Colin Dagba and Thomas Delaine. Plus, they managed to keep players such as Aholou and Perrin in pursuit of those European cups.

Rennes will have a tough task this season: overcome last season. The team led by Bruno Genesio came fourth, qualifying for the Europa League, playing good football, and getting into international cups for the third consecutive year. They were the second team that scored the most goals (82) being only surpassed by PSG (90) and taking a big difference from the third: Lyon (66). On this occasion, they were reinforced above all in defense, with the experienced goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and the defenders Arthur Theate and Joe Rodon, who arrived to replace the loss of Nayef Aguerd, sold to West Ham in another of the club’s great sales in the last years.

Lorient was saved from relegation in the last matches of the last tournament and does not want to be in that situation again. To try and achieve that they brought in goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo, and defenders Montassar Talbi, Gédéon Kalulu, and Darline Yongwa, as they were the 5th most scored team (63).

Ligue 1 Matchday 1: Marseille vs. Reims

Marseille wants to go this year for the title. The Ligue 1 runner-up was one of the teams with the most movements in the summer. More than 10 players joined the team, on all lines, including the Portuguese Nuno Tavares and the Colombian Luis Suárez, among others, forming a very competitive team to fight against PSG. To this, we must add that they are very close to bringing the Chilean Alexis Sánchez, who would have already arranged to be able to leave Inter.

On the part of Reims, they did not suffer last year with relegation, but they were very far from the European cups, which is what they aspire to in this tournament. In the next few days, the loan of striker Folarin Balogun, who would arrive from Arsenal, could be confirmed.

Marseille vs. Reims Betting Pick: Marseille
