Brasileirão Matchday 37 – Roundup and Results

Last Updated on November 11, 2022 2:26 pm by Erwin Noguera

Matchday 37 of the Brasileirão ended yesterday, Thursday, after the games between Atletico Mineiro vs. Cuiabá and Botafogo vs. Santos. With the results of this last round, three teams are already relegated to next year’s Série B: Juventude, Avai, and Ceará.

Atlético Goianiense would need to win their last game and take a six-goal difference to escape and put Cuiabá in the relegation zone – a very unlikely situation.

As usual, the last rounds of the Brasileirão are essential only for those teams that are still looking to escape relegation or that are still fighting for classification in some continental competition the following year.

Flamengo, for example, who won two important titles in the season, faced Juventude, the last place in the Brasileirão, and only drew 2-2, scoring their goal in the last minute of the second half. The team no longer had any reason to play a serious game, as their main players had already gone on vacation.

Palmeiras, however, despite having already been declared champions two rounds ago, faced América Mineiro seriously and won 2-1, seeking a points record in the Brasileirão.

The most impressive game of the round was between Fortaleza and Red Bull Bragantino, in which the home team applied a historic 6-0 rout. Atlético Mineiro and Botafogo, who played yesterday, won their games by 3-0 and are still in the fight for classification for the Libertadores.

Those who bet on the champion Palmeiras in this match were happy with the result and with the attitude of coach Abel Ferreira’s team. Palmeiras started losing, and had difficulties against an aggressive and intelligent rival, but turned the score around in a phenomenal way, as they did in many games in this edition of the Brasileirão.

América Mineiro still has good chance of qualifying for the Libertadores and the game against Atlético Goianiense, in the last round, will be decisive to achieve this feat.

Playing at home, Atlético Goianiense could not overcome their rival and ended up suffering to get a draw in this match. If they had won, they would have had a little more chance of escaping relegation, being just one point away from Cuiabá.

Athletico Paranaense is still looking to qualify for the following year’s Copa Libertadores and will play seriously until the last round, Paranaense is currently 6th in the Brasileirão.

Atlético Mineiro has had a terrible season, considering that they were coming as defending Serie A champions and were candidates for everything. However, they still have chances to go to the Libertadores playoffs if they finish above an Athletico that seems beaten after losing the continental final.

They gave a massive beating to Cuiba 3-0, with goals from Keno and Eduardo Vargas, and practically didn’t let their rivals play, having twice as many passes, chances, and ball possession. They hope to keep this level to the next round.

On the other side, Cuibá still feels the heavy breathing of the last dropping position in its neck. Although they have the goals average in their favor in front of Atlético Goianense, they need at least a draw in the next game to rest assured.
