Why bet on the USA?

The United States is one step closer to successfully defending its World Baseball Classic title.

A come-from-behind 9–7 quarter-final win over Venezuela on Saturday, powered by Trea Turner’s eighth-inning grand slam, was enough to see the 2017 champions into a tantalizing semi-final against Cuba. Now there’s a spot in the final – against Japan or Mexico – on the line.

Why bet on Cuba?

Cuba has had a mixed tournament, losing its opening two games in pool play before making it through as the Pool A winner in a five-way tiebreaker. Later they beat Australia in the quarter-finals in Tokyo.

The Caribbeans had to deal with jet lag, having flown from Japan to the U.S. and arriving on Thursday.

On paper, Cuba (3–2) should struggle against the USA (4–1). However, in this meeting between two traditional rivals – in both baseball and outside of sport – anything goes.

Final Betting Analysis: Cuba vs. USA

The Cuban team does not have much Major League Baseball (MLB) talent on its roster, with only two of their players currently in the big leagues (Yoán Moncada and Luis Robert Jr.). That in itself is notable, as this is the first Cuban national team to include MLB players. However, they do have some veterans of international play, including World Baseball Classic legend Alfredo Despaigne.

Team USA, meanwhile, is packed from top to toe with MLB stars, although having used most of his bullpen in the win over Venezuela, manager Mark DeRosa faces the difficult task of managing his pitchers for this game, with an eye on Tuesday’s final – if his team makes it.

Go for a victory for the Americans.

If you bet $100 on a USA victory at -500 you can get $20 for a total payout of $120.
