Spain GP 2023 Preview and Betting Odds

Last Updated on June 2, 2023 5:32 pm by Erwin Noguera

As the Formula 1 calendar moves to Europe, all eyes are on Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the 2023 Spanish GP. With the season already underway, teams and drivers are eager to showcase their skills and fight for crucial championship points. The Spanish GP has always been a fan favorite, and this year promises to be no exception.

After seven GPs contested so far, considering that the Italy GP could not be contested due to heavy flooding problems in the city that weekend, all drivers have only one mission: to dethrone Max Verstappen.

The Dutchman continues proving that he is currently the Formula 1 driver with the best form, and he seems unrivaled. His teammate, Sergio “Checo” Perez, is trying to keep up with him. However, Verstappen’s most recent victory at the Monaco GP and Perez’s disastrous qualifying left him with no points in the race. So now, the drivers’ world championship is a little more separated.

We had a great surprise in Monaco: Alpine’s rebound was well below its level in the first six GP contests. In addition, it is worth mentioning that Fernando Alonso continues to give extraordinary results with Aston Martin. Finally, we have Mercedes, a team that has not yet managed to build an ideal car for Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to get into the fight for victories.

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya

Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has hosted the Spanish GP since 1991 and is a familiar testing ground for all teams. The 4.657 km long track features a mix of high-speed corners, long straights, and technical sections, making it a true test of a car’s aerodynamic efficiency and engine power. With 14 corners, the track offers plenty of overtaking opportunities, especially in the DRS zones on the main straight and between turns 9 and 10.

In addition, the chicane just before the last corner has been eliminated for this GP. As a result, after the results of Free Practice 1 that has just finished, we can see how the circuit is between 4/5 seconds faster than before.

Spain F1 GP race preview and betting selections

As we approach the Spain GP, the battle for the championship is heating up. Red Bull is running away at the top of the leaderboard. Aston Martin, Mercedes, and Ferrari are showing great consistency but still can’t challenge Max and Checo in their Red Bull.

Verstappen, the reigning world champion, will try to extend his lead over Perez and Alonso, his closest pursuers. On the other hand, Hamilton and Russell will try their best to have a good race in Barcelona to stay among the top three teams in the constructors’ championship.

On Ferrari’s side, Leclerc and Sainz are fighting to have their team at the top in this GP, which is undoubtedly of utmost importance.

Then, we have a very nice battle between Alpine and McLaren, as according to what we have observed more recently, Ocon and Gasly seem to have found a way to compete and are candidates to be the “best of the rest.”. Meanwhile, Lando Norris will try to show what he is made of, despite not having much confidence in his car in this 2023 season.

The weather factor

The weather in Barcelona during June can be unpredictable, with the possibility of rain and gusty winds. These conditions may significantly affect the race, as teams must adapt their strategies and car settings accordingly.
