UFC Legend In The Making: Rose Namajunas

Rose Namajunas aka “Thug Rose” is a mixed martial arts fighter who was born on June 29, 1992. She currently belongs to the UFC in the women’s featherweight division, and is the current owner of the champion belt. Namajunas began her UFC career in 2013 when Gilbert Meléndez selected her to be part of his team. In this season, Rose managed to reach the finals by defeating several of the best fighters in the featherweight category. However, on December 12, 2014, she lost the TUF final to Carla Esparza by submission in the third round. This fight was for the inaugural 2014 strawweight championship.

Rose Namajunas vs Weili Zhang

On April 24, 2021, Namajunas faced Weili Zang in the main fight of the UFC 261 event – Namajunas vs Weili. In this fight, Rose stood in the center of the octagon connecting different blows to Zhang until she saw a gap and took the opportunity to connect a kick directly to Zhang’s head. Zhang fell directly to the canvas, in which Namajunas approached and managed to connect three more blows before the referee stopped the fight. Only 1 minute and 18 seconds within the octagon was enough for Namajunas to finish Zhang by technical knockout.

Rose Namajunas vs Joanna Jędrzejczyk

In 2017, Namajunas faced Joanna Jędrzejczyk in the UFC 217 main event for the UFC women’s featherweight championship. In this fight, Namajunas defeated Jędrzejczyk in round one at minute 3:03. Rose landed a combination of punches that were lethal to Jędrzejczyk, in which Jędrzejczyk ended up falling to the canvas with a lightning knockout.

Rose Namajunas vs Michelle Waterson

On April 15, 2017, Namajunas faced Michelle Waterson at UFC on Fox: Johnson vs. Reis. This fight was a back and forth throughout the two rounds that lasted. At minute 2:47 of the second round, Rose applied a rear-naked choke to Waterson and achieved the victory by submission.

Rose Namajunas vs Emily Kagan

Rose Namajunas’ first professional victory was on January 5, 2013, when she faced Emily Kagan at Invicta FC 4, and won the submission award of the night. Even though it was her first fight as a professional, Namajunas went to the octagon as a true veteran. In three well-contested rounds,  Namajunas managed to defeat Kagan by submission at minute 3:44 of the third round.
