Dana White’s Contender Series S5, W7 – Fight Card:

As previously mentioned, the previous main vent was scrapped off. However, the card managed to continue as planned with 5 fights, and here is the Schedule:

Main Event – Bantamweight: Christian Rodriguez vs. Reyes Cortez

Heavyweight: Hugo Cunha vs. Martin Buday

Flyweight: Jake Hadley vs. Mitch Raposo

Featherweight: Xie Bin vs. Olivier Murad

Women’s Flyweight: Silvana Gómez Juárez vs. Maria Silva

Before we go into detail about the current card of Fights, let’s dive into a quick review of the canceled bout.

The Canceled Bout

Light heavyweight: Anton Turkalj vs. Kaloyan Kolev

This fight, between undefeated fighters Kolev (10-0) and Turkalj (7-0) was previously scheduled as the main event.

The fight had to be canceled after “The Pleasure Man” Anton Turkalj had visa issues and couldn’t make the trip. So, with the match canceled, they switched up the fight card and set a new 5th fight.

The Main Card Analysis:

After the Cancelation, we got a new main event and a great set of Fights that await us on Tuesday:

Main Event – Bantamweight: Christian Rodriguez vs. Reyes Cortez

Headlining DWCS Season 5, Week 7 will be a bantamweight bout between the undefeated Christian Rodriguez (5-0) and Reyes Cortez (5-1).

Christian Rodriguez had his debut in the Bellator cage and has been fighting on multiple promotions since then. To date, he has finished all of his opponents, 3 via KO/TKO and 2 via submission.

Cortez has his latest win as a unanimous decision at “Combate Global”. He currently sits on a 2 fight win streak. In his case, all of his other victories are from the way of KO/TKO. On the other hand, around halfway through the 2nd round or earlier. This shows he is an aggressive stand-up fighter.

Heavyweight: Hugo Cunha vs. Martin Buday

The Co-man event of the evening is a heavyweight bout between the undefeated Brazilian Hugo “Silverback” Cunha (6-0) and the Slovakian Martin “Badys” Buday (8-1).

Hugo Cunha is a finisher; he has managed to win all his fights with a finish on the second round or earlier. The Brazilian comes in with 3 finishes via KO/TKO and 3 via submission.

On the other hand, Buday has been also able to finish all of his opponents, most via the way of KO/TKO. There are some odd finishes in his resume, like one fighter retiring before entering the 3rd round and another one finishing the first round with an arm injury.

Flyweight: Jake Hadley vs. Mitch Raposo

This match was the filler after the previous main event got canceled, and it looks like it is making up for it, as we get two undefeated fighters meeting up at the midpoint of the event, and hopefully get the excitement to the roof.

First, we get the Cage Warriors Champion, Jake “White Kong” Hadley, who has also been successful in the Bellator cage.

Hadley has finished 5 out of 7 opponents, 3 of them via Rear Naked Choke and the other two via KO/TKO, and both his decision victories have been unanimous.

Mitch Raposo (5-0) is a face you may have seen before if you watched the Ultimate Fighter season 28, as he is currently holding an unbeaten record, but did indeed lose an exhibition match in the season.

Raposo is looking to correct his mistakes and make the best of this second chance to capture a UFC contract.

This match-up has two well-rounded fighters, and it should be an exciting middle point to the event.

Featherweight: Xie Bin vs. Olivier Murad

The featherweights are the second set of fighters to get into the cage this night, when the ONE Championship fighter, Xie Bin (8-2), meets the undefeated Haitian-American Olivier Murad (5-0).

Xie “The Stalker” Bin comes into this match with a 7 fight win streak, with all his fights taking place in ONE championship.

He has a strong weapon at his disposal, having 3 out of his 4 submission wins via D’arce Choke, which is quite uncommon, but he managed to score them as 3 straight wins.

On the other hand, we have Olivier “Warrior of God” Murad, who crowned himself as the Titan FC Featherweight Champion in February of this year.

He has a nice resume with 1 unanimous decision win, two KO/TKOs, and 2 Submissions, including a Heel Hook finish in 22 seconds of the first round.

This fight is bound to be fun, as we have two fighters who have creative skill sets and could give some surprises once the fight hits the ground.

Women’s Flyweight: Silvana Gómez Juárez vs. Maria Silva

The first match of the evening will see the Women take the stage in an explosive match-up.

On one side, from Entram Gym Tijuana, we get the Argentinian, Silvana “La Malvada” Gomez (10-2), who has fought in multiple promotions in the latin american circuits, including Combate Global, Lux and UWC Mexico.

“La Malvada” has had 2 decision victories, 2 submissions via armbar and has finished 6 fighters via KO/TKOs, so expect her to look towards a stand up brawl.

Against the Argertinian, we get the undefeated Brazilian fighter Maria “Viuva Negra” Silva (6-0), who has racked all her victories in different regional promotions.

The “Black Widow” has only seen the judges scorecards once in her carreer, and with two submissions and 3 TKOs, she is looking forward to get into striking range against her opponent.

The first fight of the night will start the fireworks, as both fighters clash in the cage try to knock the other one to the canvas.
