Last Updated on September 12, 2022 3:17 pm by Erwin Noguera

The Group Stage of the 2022 Davis Cup by Rakuten will take place across four cities (Bologna, Glasgow, Hamburg, and Valencia) between September 13th-18th. Meanwhile, the Knock-out stage will take place in Malaga on November 22-27 afterward.

2022 Davis Cup – Event Overview

The Finals feature 16 teams.

These include the 12 winners of the Qualifiers.

Those winners are Argentina, Australia, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Korea, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and the USA.

Along them will be Croatia (2021 Runner Ups), Serbia (losing 2021 semi-Finalist), and the two Wild Cards, Canada and Great Britain.

The 16 teams will compete in four round-robin groups of four teams.

The two top teams in each group get to advance to the quarter-finals.

Event Preview:

The Russian Tennis Federation had qualified automatically for the 2022 edition (as 2021 champions). However, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the RTF has been suspended from all international team competitions until further notice.

Their replacement will be know soon.

The event kicks off at 5:00 am PT Monday, with Australia vs. Belgium in Hamburg.

Argentina will get their 2022 campaign underway in the opening tie in Bologna at 6:00 am PT.

Matches in Valencia start at 7:00 am PT with a tie between Canada and Korea.

Kazakhstan vs. the Netherlands is the first tie in Glasgow for a 6:00 am PT start.

From there on, we can believe that things will just get more interesting, as the defending champions are out of the question.
