The second event organized by the Vissla NSW Pro Surf Series, the World Surf League’s Port Stephens Pro in the Qualifying Series (QS) 1000; saw play until yesterday.

The event saw the participation of more than 120 competitors who were from all over Australia and New Zealand. The first day of competition began with a spectacular crystal clear beach with waves of 3 to 4 feet at Birubi Beach; where the first and second rounds were played in the men’s and women’s divisions.

Round 2

In round 2 of the men’s division, one of the young stars, Oscar Berry, started on the right foot this year 2022 at the Gage Roads Port Stephens Pro; as he achieved a landslide victory, proving that his level is higher than never. Despite finishing in fifth place in the Phillip Island event; Berry was trying to overcome this position and take first place.

Another of the promises, Ash Jenner, achieved an excellent result taking a magnificent victory home. Jenner took advantage of each of the wave zones that could give her more points to win the series.

One of the athletes looking to score a win was New Zealand’s Billy Stairmand, who displayed excellent competition on the rails. Stairmand scored an excellent win on this second day of competition to stay alive on the day of the final. He was trying to continue at his best to seek a place in the Challenger Series.

Round of 16

While Mikey Clayton-Brown had a very tough series against Joel Vaughan, the winner of the Great Lakes Pro; as well as two great surfers like Cooper Davies and Stu Kennedy.

Other surfers who advanced to the round of 16 included Axel Rose-Curotta, Joel Vaughan, and Reef Heazlewood. There was also special recognition for Kobi Clements for surfing the highest individual wave of the event up to that point, receiving a total of 9.00 points.

After two action-packed days at Birubi Beach, the competition moved north to One Mile Beach looking to escape the strong southerly winds. The backup location provided the competitors with incredible waves so that they could excellently demonstrate their abilities in the grand final.

Nyxie Ryan and Mikey McDonagh scored extraordinary wins at the 2022 Gage Roads Port Stephens Pro World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 1000 event.
