All the most important sporting events in the world of surfing continue; the Ballito Pro Presented by O’Neill, which is one of the oldest surfing tournaments in the world. Traditionally this event is in June. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it had to move and will take place from December 15-19, 2021.
The Ballito Pro Presented by O’Neill is an event that will host and showcase all surfing fans in the world; the best male, female, and youth surfers from the WSL and Surfing South Africa. This event will take place at Willard Beach in the city of KwaDukuza.
Male surfers will have the QS5000, female QS1000 and the South African Surf Championship will be held.
Notable surfers include two-time local men’s champion Jordy Smith and women’s champion Sarah Baum.

- Jordy Smith
Jordy Smith is a 33-year-old South African surfer who is ranked # 7 in the World Top on the WSL Championship Tour. Smith has been a very successful surfer from his beginnings as a professional; in each of the events he participates in, makes clear the great ability that he must ride the waves. This 2021 he has had 2 tournaments in which he has done an excellent role; in the Boost Mobile Margaret River Pro presented by Corona, in which he finished in second place. Later, the Billabong Pipe Masters was presented by Hydro Flask, finishing in fifth place.
- Shane Sykes
While Shane Sykes has not had a very good 2021 year, so he comes to this event with the firm conviction of having good records again and trying to enter the Championship Tour. Although he is still a young surfer, others who are younger are competing against the best in the world, so this great opportunity should not be wasted.

- Sarah Baum
The reigning South African champion, Sarah Baum, has had the year 2021 with ups and downs since she has become in the TOP 15 of some events in which she has participated, while in others she has simply been out of orbit from the competition. Her best appearances this season in the Women’s Qualifying Series are fifth place in the Sisstrevolution Central Coast Pro and ninth place in the Nissan Super Girl Surf Pro.

Finally, we have one of the promising South African surfers, Zoe Steyn, who at just 18 years old is competing in professional competitions. This is not a surprise, since 2017, it has been among the best in its country. The year 2021 for Steyn has been inactive and this will be her first event in the Women’s Junior Tour category.
