Premier League Matchday 14 – Roundup and Results

Premier League Matchday 14

Arsenal returned to good football and retained the lead, while Manchester United snatched fifth place from Chelsea.

In the morbid duel, Brighton achieved its first victory in the Roberto De Zerbi era and precisely against Graham Potter’s Chelsea, who had not been defeated. It was a 4-1 with goals from Leandro Trossard, and Pascal Gross, and two own goals from Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Trevoh Chalobah. Kai Havertz scored for the Blues who are now sixth, while the Seagulls are eighth.

Liverpool continues to disappoint and this time they lost 1-2 at Anfield to Leeds United, who won thanks to a goal from Crysencio Summerville in the 89th minute. Rodrigo scored the first goal for the Peacocks, while Mohamed Salah did it for the Reds.

A solitary goal from Odsonne Édouard helped Crystal Palace beat Southampton 1-0 and reach mid-table, while the Saints are just 1 point from relegation.

Manchester United cruised to a huge 1-0 victory over West Ham and slipped into fifth place with a game in hand than most. Marcus Rashford scored the goal and David De Gea was a figure.

In the weekend’s other two games, Brentford and Wolverhampton drew 1-1 with goals from Ben Mee (B) and Rúben Neves (W), while Fulham and Everton held out goalless.

Arsenal never got more than one goal in any of its last five matches, and they came to this game after falling for the first time in the Europa League. They had in front a team whose defensive structure has been improving recently, as Nottingham’s defense has been leaky at the start of the league but they just received 3 goals in its last 4 games.

Seeing these numbers there was a clear preoccupation in the Londoners’ fanbase, but the Gunners probed that they are more alive than ever.

Martinelli’s early goal crushed Forest’s plans quickly and, after Saka got an injure and was substituted by Reiss Nelson, the latter gave a masterclass that helped destroy Nottingham with 5 goals, 24 shots, and 70% of possession. The “Tree” was never into the match and must beware of another fall of form due to the impact.

Manchester City and Leicester gave a close game to their fans this early Saturday, which wasn’t very entertaining but left interesting results in the tactical analysis. The Foxes managed to neutralize City who only had 5 shots on target in the game. However, if there is someone in the world capable of breaking a strong defense, is Kevin Debruyne. The best midfielder in the world resolved the game with a single free kick.

City has been having problems in the creation of plays in the last games as its rivals are resorting to a high-pressure, close defense approach. The tiredness in the team is palpable in the lack of ideas to construct from the back, so it should be predictable to see them use the long ball more.

Of the 5 shots on target Leicester, at least 4 were in the final minutes of the match after Debruyne’s goal crushed its game plan. However, they were closer to the goal just thanks to a bad clearing by Stones that almost ends up in a comical own goal by Ruben Dias.

Premier League Matchday 14: Bournemouth vs. Tottenham

When

Saturday, October 29 at 10:00 am ET at the Vitality Stadium

Moneyline odds:

Bournemouth +390

Tottenham -144

Draw Offs

Tottenham came to this game after a couple of damaging results and the team mentality was clearly out of place. The team from the south coast managed to be 2-0 up at one moment but Sessegnon, Davies, and Bentancur achieved an impressive comeback.

Tottenham’s problems are not only in defense. Harry Kane has been his usual goal-scoring self, but Son Heung-Min is having a serious sting of irregularity as he is unplayable in one game, and completely disappears in the other. With Kulusevsky and Richarlyson Injured, the Spurs don’t have enough rotation options to give a rest to the Korean start.

Either way, the set-pieces were the main weapons for Tottenham in this match (an Antonio Conte classic), and they are still a dangerous but unstable team.

Newcastle is a machine in the hands of Eddie Howe and the English manager has acomplished a very good structure with the revival of players discarded by the press and fans like Almiron and Joelington.

Aston Villa tried to use a low defensive block that managed to stop the Magpies’ attack, however, after Callum Wilson’s penalty at the dying embers of the first half, the Villians entered the field working as an amateur team in the second half and received a beating.

20 shots, 7 on target, and 60% possession where the numbers of a Newcastle that never allowed a shot on target in this match. They are a fast-paced and dangerous team from the new British school of tactics and, if they keep getting better, the clubs in the top six should be very aware.
