MLS Final: LAFC vs. Philadelphia Union

The final match in the MLS Cup has taken place and it gave us one of the best games in this instance in this competition. That, or a defensive horrorshow, depends on your point of view.

The Philadelphia Union (Eastern Conference) and LAFC (Western Conference) fought hard in a contested back-and-forth that showed why they were the top teams during the whole season.

The match reached a penalty shoot-out after quite a lot of action.

Let’s get right into the details.

2022 MLS Final Round-Up: Los Angeles Football Club vs. Philadelphia Union

LAFC is top of the league, emerging as first-time champions from Saturday’s epic championship match at Banc of California Stadium, beating the Philadelphia Union on penalty kicks (after a 3-3 draw for the ages) and also making the hosts the first team to complete a Cup-Supporters’ Shield double since Toronto FC in 2017.

The Match took LAFC’s favor with a goal by Kellyn Acosta in the 28th minute, but Philadelphia’s Daniel Gazdag managed to even the score in the 59th minute.

However, LAFC took the lead again as Jesus Murillo scored on the 83rd, but it was short-lived as Phillie’s Jack Elliot scored on the 85th.

Jack Elliot, whose first equalizer booked extra frames, managed to hit his go-ahead 124th-minute strike and pushed the Union on the verge of a first MLS Cup trophy.

Gareth Bale’s thunderous 128th-minute equalizing header sent the game into penalty kicks, showing exactly why the Black & Gold signed the superstar forward this summer as he left Real Madrid.

Reserve goalkeeper John McCarthy stopped two penalty kicks as LAFC won MLS Cup 2022 by defeating the Philadelphia Union in penalty kicks, 3-0, Saturday in front of 22,384 at the Banc of California Stadium.

With the match having both teams fighting to a 3-3 draw following 90 minutes of regulation and 30 of extra time. Without a doubt the penalty shoot-out was an exciting way to end a season with two titans on the field.
