We have a Liga MX champion! Pachuca beat Toluca in the second leg with a score of 3-1 to finish with an overall score of 8-2, a historic figure in Mexican soccer.
With this title, the Tuzos win their seventh in their history, making it the club with the most championships won since the creation of the short tournaments.
Everyone thought that Pachuca would come out to defend instead of playing an offensive game in this match, but the opposite was true. The Tuzos went out from minute 1 to crush a Toluca team that was becoming increasingly blurred on the field.
The team coached by the Uruguayan Guillermo Almada did not betray their style and went forward, demonstrating a thrilling attack, despite the comfortable lead, to leave no doubt of their power on the field and take a well-deserved revenge after losing in the final of the previous tournament against Atlas, in addition to setting several records with their irrefutable victory.
Pachuca was now able to celebrate in front of its fans at the Hidalgo Stadium and in what a way. Gone is that tough defeat against Atlas in the last tournament and, from what we have observed throughout this Apertura 2022 Tournament, the Tuzos have become one of the teams to beat in Liga MX.

As we predicted in our preview of this match, the Tuzos del Pachuca achieved a 3-1 victory over Toluca to be crowned for the seventh time in their history in the first division of Mexican soccer.
Mexican Víctor Guzmán and Argentines Nicolás Ibáñez and Gustavo Cabral scored goals for the Tuzos, while Raúl López scored for Toluca.
After losing the first leg 1-5 last Thursday at the Nemesio Diez, Toluca came out to play this game hoping for a miracle, scoring a goal every 20 minutes without conceding any.
Similarly, Pachuca started the match with an impressive pace, creating two clear scoring chances in the 9th and 13th minutes, through Ibañez, the tournament’s leading scorer, and Erick Sánchez, respectively.

However, Toluca struck an unexpected blow in the 21st minute, when Raúl Gómez scored the first goal of the match and, after a penalty kick missed by Ibañez, Toluca’s hopes were alive.
But those hopes were completely dashed when, in the next play, Víctor Guzmán, in minute 45+3, equalized the score for the home side before the break.
Guillermo Almada’s men went into the break motivated, had a pleasant talk in the dressing room, and, in the second half, put an end to the few hopes that Ignacio Ambriz’s men had of a comeback.
In the 51st minute, a prefabricated play allowed Nico Ibáñez to take revenge and score the 2-1 goal that increased the overall advantage to 7-2 and put his team on its way to the seventh championship in its history.
Finally, Pachuca put the game to bed in the 75th minute, when Gustavo Cabral took an effective penalty kick.
Even after a dominant performance, it was Pachuca’s attack’s volume that stood out in this game, as the Tuzos had 8 shots on target for 3 goals, excellent efficiency for a team that doesn’t use possession game to its advantage, using high-pace counter-attacks instead.
It was in the first game where Pachuca showed what is made of, putting five balls into the net with just 6 shots on target and 37% of possession.
Pachuca Confirmed the Most Scandalous Thrashing in the History of the Liga MX Finals
The Tuzos enjoyed giving a historic thrashing in this final, but not only that, it was the biggest one in the history of a Liga MX final.
Pachuca confirmed itself as the winningest team in Mexican soccer in the last 25 years, adding its seventh league title since 1999 to its five CONCACAF trophies, the 2006 Copa Sudamericana, and third place in the Club World Cup.
Result: Toluca (1) – (3) Pachuca
