Champions League Group Stage Matchday 2 – Results and Roundup

The UEFA Champions League saw the end of its matchday 2 this Wednesday, with two magic nights full of surprising results, close games, and the always-present spice of controversy. As it stands, we are just one match away from the equator of the group stage. Knowing this, the teams feel the pressure, as the opportunities to straighten the ship are less now.

Champions League Group Stage Matchday 2: Roundup

Yesterday we started the day strong with a good surprise. While Inter swept the Cinderella of its group, Tottenham couldn’t win in Portugal against a solid Sporting. This result brings the gloom of the terrible performance of Antonio Conte in international competitions again.

Later we got a series of entertaining games. Liverpool feelt the ground shake again after an Impressive goal by Ajax youngster Mohammed Kudus and a close header by Blind, but a later strike by fan-favorite Matip calmed the waters again. Meanwhile, Atlético deepened its crisis against Leverkusen; as they give, they take, the last time out they beat Porto on the last breath of the game, and now the Aspirines applied a similar dose.

The strong plate of the night, of course, was the Bayern vs. Barça. It seemed like the Culés will sweep the ghosts of the past, at least in the first half, then the Bavarians had a couple of moments of brilliance, and well, we had Xavi making excuses in the post-match interview once again.

As for today, two Italian big teams did their homework. Especially remarkable was the Napoli game, after the bizarre situation with penalties in the second half.

Chelsea keeps in its irregular path, while Madrid keeps things quiet with a late victory against the Red Bulls.

Now, another surprise of the matchday was Juve’s loss to Benfica, as not only it suffered a comeback, it looked worse than its rival.

Finally, in another of the strong plates of the Champions League Group Stage Matchday 2Dortmund and City gave an interesting game. On the one hand, the first half was terrible, on the other, what a spectacle we got in the second half. Bellingham threatened to bring the cold to the Eithad, just for Stones and Haaland to give us the best goals of the round.
