The Brasileirão reached its final round last Sunday and it was possible to observe some surprising results, such as the defeat of Palmeiras and Botafogo – both lost 3-0.
Atlético Goianiense drew 1-1 with América Mineiro and could not escape: it is officially relegated and will play in Serie B next year. Ceará, Avai, and Juventude accompany Atlético Goianiense this fall.
With the defeat of the vice-leader Internacional, Palmeiras ended the Brasileirão with an advantage of 8 points for second place, demonstrating how prepared they were to be champions.
The vast majority of teams took to the field a mixed team, without the main players, since many of them were already on vacation.
Let’s remember the main games of this last round below.

América Mineiro was still fighting to qualify for the following year’s Copa Libertadores and depended only on a simple victory to achieve that goal.
The hosts were superior in the match, but could not win, missing an excellent opportunity to play in the biggest competition in South America in 2023.
Atlético Goianiense, which needed to win by a difference of three goals, and hope for a defeat of Cuiabá, was relegated at the final whistle and will have to stay at least a year in the lower division.
Even with one more player, América Mineiro couldn’t break through their opponent’s block and tied the match, disappointing their fans.
Brasileirão Matchday 38 – Corinthians 0x1 Atlético Mineiro
When:
Sunday, November 13th, 02:00 pm ET at the Corinthians Arena
Moneyline Odds:
Corinthians +215
Atlético Mineiro +139

Atlético Mineiro needed a win and a slip by Athletico Paranaense to see themselves in the next Copa Libertadores playoffs, so they played this game like it was a final, even with all the limitations they showed throughout the campaign. On the other side, there was a Corinthians that wasn’t playing for anything important and it showed.
A solitary goal by a penalty from Edu Vargas gave the victory to last year’s champions, sadly for them, Athletico PR steam-rolled Botafogo by 3-0, killing all their chances and sending them directly to the Copa Sudamericana.
Brasileirão Matchday 38 – Athletico Paranaense 3×0 Botafogo
When:
Sunday, November 11th, 02:00 pm ET at the Arena do Baixada
Moneyline Odds:
Athletico Paranaense +113
Botafogo +250

Botafogo is a roller coaster. After beating Santos 3-0 in the penultimate round, the team lost by the same score, wasting a great chance to qualify for the following year’s Copa Libertadores.
With the victory, Athletico secured 6th place in the championship, while Botafogo ended the season in 11th position. Despite not having reached the qualification for the continental competition, Botafogo’s directors and fans can be proud of the season that the team had, which gives hope for an even better season in 2023.
