Premier League Matchday Roundup

The Matchday 31 of the Premier League just wrapped up, and it gave us some fun matches to watch, but the results of most of the clashes were far from unexpected. That means the fight at the top of the scoreboard continues to be pretty exciting, as Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool all landed another victory and keep things tight.

We are closer to the end, but the three teams at the top could shift on any matchday, so we can’t even bat an eye once the balls are on the field, and that makes for one great last stretch in the season.

It’s so exciting up at the top that it has been a while since we looked down to see the relegation zone, but it seems like poor Sheffield United may be having too much of a difficult time trying to climb up. Burnley is a little past them, and Luton Town would need to pick up the pace, as Nottm Forest just won their last game and managed to clear the gap and escape danger.

Now, we will break down some of the games that unfolded during the 31st matchday of the Premier League as we continue to the end of the season.

The Spurs missed their chance to close the gap and catch up to the fourth-placed Aston Villa, having taken a fifth-minute lead through Brennan Johnson’s tap-in. However, Kurt Zouma equalized the scores by heading in when he was unmarked at a corner.

The Hammers should have been able to complete the turnaround after half-time as Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario saved well from Konstantinos Mavropanos from another corner. Nevertheless, it was Michail Antonio who wastefully fired straight at the Italian and missed a big opportunity.

Both sides could have won it in stoppage time as Destiny Udogie shot straight at Lukasz Fabianski from inside the box, and Bowen’s effort went wide of Vicario’s far post.

After big offensive displays from both teams, they split the points.

Manager Pep Guardiola left key men Erling Haaland and Kevin de Bruyne on the bench, but the reigning champions still had too much for injury-hit Villa.

City also had sensible absences in defense due to injury, but Foden produced a masterclass to take his tally to 21 goals this season. However, it was Rodri who struck first for City after 11 minutes when he swept home Jeremy Doku’s cross at the near post.

Nine minutes later, Jhon Duran beat Stefan Ortega with a low finish after a neat exchange with Morgan Rogers, setting the score even for a moment.

It was then that Foden decided to take things into his own hands, restoring City’s lead with a free-kick on the stroke of half-time, only to then extend the lead after 62 minutes when he fired low past Villa’s deputy keeper Robin Olsen after good work by Rodri.

The “Stockport Iniesta” then claimed his Hat Trick in style seven minutes later with a fine drive into the top corner from the edge of the area, dismantling Aston Villa in the process.

Darwin Nunez gave Liverpool the lead after forcing a goalkeeping error, but Sheffield United was plucky and made it 1-1 after Conor Bradley’s own goal.

Jurgen Klopp’s men navigated a tricky 90 minutes to go back to the top of the Premier League table. Either way, just when nerves looked to be getting the better of Liverpool, Alexis Mac Allister stepped up in the big moment to smash home a stunner. Cody Gakpo added some extra gloss to the scoreline later.

This was the only expected outcome for this match, as one would expect when the bottom and top teams collide.

Premier League Matchday 31 Roundup: Chelsea 4 – 3 Manchester United

As we said in the preview, Chelsea is an inconsistent team that shows many faces throughout the games, and this was the perfect example. They were leading the clash 2-0 by the 19th minute, only for Manchester United to rally and take a 3-2 lead by the 67th.

United embraced the chaos until the final 82 seconds, as they had the win in their hands, only for Diogo Dalot to give away a penalty, duly slotted home by Cole Palmer to make it 3-3, before leaving Palmer unmarked to score the winner from a corner moments later.

They essentially waved goodbye to their hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, while Cole Palmer (who scored in the 19th minute) is the hero after a well-claimed hat trick during the match.
