Men and Women’s Olympic Basketball Quarterfinals Preview

Olympic Basketball at Paris 2024 is in the quarterfinal stage, so the medals are close to being decided.

On the men’s side, there is a very attractive duel between the local France and Canada, which is full of talent that stands out in the NBA, while the United States will seek to get closer to a new gold medal against the tough Brazil.

Turning to the women’s side, the Americans, the heavy favorites to take the gold, will have to take on the fierce Nigerians.

Brazil has to dance with the toughest, however, they already proved they can be uncomfortable when they made a good showing against France. The prediction is for the United States to advance.

The United States is the big favorite to advance to the semifinals, but the game between Spain and Belgium is a little more evenly matched, and anything can happen.

On the women’s side, let’s start by talking about the United States, which in this section also becomes the great candidate to take absolute glory.

They had an ideal group stage, with three wins and an abysmal points difference of +58. That is why they were the best qualifiers, and will face Nigeria, who won twice against Australia and Canada and lost once versus France, thus advancing to the quarterfinals as the best third-placed team.

The Iberian team’s opponent will be Belgium, which only won once and lost twice, but was fortunate enough to advance as the best third team. Their victory was against Japan in the last game, where both teams were fighting for third place, and the Europeans needed to win by 27 points, and so they did. It was 85 to 58, 27 points exactly.

Belgium is the current European champion, and less than a month ago they beat Spain 76 – 58 in a friendly game. Emma Meesseman has been their most outstanding player, scoring 30 points in her last game and 79 in the tournament, in addition to 12 assists and 17 rebounds, 11 of them against Japan.
