On the last day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Colombian athletes did not had outstanding performances.

In the Women’s Marathon, Angie Oruela finished in 77th place, running 35km in a time of 2:14:10.

Kevin Santiago Quintero finished in last place in his Series in Track Cycling (Men’s Keirin) and failed to advance to the next round.

Martha Bayona Pineda was third in her heat and finished in seventh place in the overall classification in Women’s Track Cycling Sprint.

Cristian David Ortega Fontalvo was also seventh in the Men’s Keirin.

Colombia Update August 10

Colombia has been able to celebrate in these last few hours, as they achieved two medals to finish the 9th before their last competitors go and make their best efforts out there.

Things looked pretty sweet for Colombia in weightlifting, as both their Women’s 71kg M. Sanchez and the Men’s 89kg Y. Lopez managed to achieve the Silver Medal in their events.

Now, there are only a few shots left, as M. Uribe is currently 19th in the Golf final round at the time of writing.

Besides that, T. Renteria is preparing to enter the Women’s Freestyle 76kg wrestling semi-finals to see if she will advance to the fight for gold or bronze.

F. Ruiz will be representing in the Women’s Javelin Throw Final, and there is still a shot at the Women’s Sprint and Men’s Keirin in Track Cycling.

Colombia’s athletes demonstrated their resilience and skill across various events today.

In Diving, Alejandro Solarte competed in the Men’s 10m platform, finishing 20th.

Martha Araujo shined in Athletics, particularly in the Women’s Heptathlon long jump, where she achieved 1st place with a personal best. She also competed in the Women’s Javelin throw, securing 7th place.

In Track Cycling, Martha Bayona and Stefany Cuadrado both qualified for the next round in the Women’s Sprint Qualifying, placing 13th and 15th respectively. Bayona continued her strong performance by winning heat 12 in the 1/32 finals, advancing to the next round. Cuadrado finished 2nd in heat 10 and moved on to the repechage.

In the second round of Golf, Maríajo Uribe continues to impress, currently holding 4th place as the tournament progresses.

Yenny Álvarez faced difficulty in the Weightlifting Women’s 59kg Finals, unfortunately not finishing the event.

Luis Felipe Uribe Bermudez delivered a strong performance in the 3m Springboard finals, finishing in 6th place.

In Track Cycling, Fernando Gaviria competed in the Men’s Omnium Tempo Race, placing 17th, and also finished 20th in the Scratch Race.

Martha Araújo showed her versatility in the Women’s Heptathlon, placing 12th in the High Jump and achieving a commendable 4th place in the 100m Hurdles.

In Wrestling, Carlos Muñoz faced a tough match in the Men’s Greco-Roman 87kg Repechage Round 2, losing to Arkadiusz Kulynycz of Poland.

Manuela Gomez Sanchez competed in the Canoe Sprint Women’s C-1 200m Quarterfinals, finishing in 4th place.

In the Men’s Cycling Track Sprint, Cristian David Ortega Fontalvo finished in 12th place and qualified for the 1/32 finals. Kevin Santiago Quintero Chavarro finished in 25th place and did not qualify.

In Cycling Track Women’s Keirin First Round: Martha Bayona Pineda placed 6th and will go to the repechages. Stefany Cuadrado Florez placed 5th and will also go to the repechages.

In Athletics Women’s Javelin Throw Qualification: Maria Lucelly Murillo finished in 5th place with a season’s best but did not qualify for the finals. Flor Denis Ruiz Hurtado placed 3rd and qualified for the finals.

In Diving 3m Springboard Semifinals Luis Felipe Uribe Bermudez placed 10th and qualified for the finals.

And Athletics Marathon Race Walk Relay MixedMateo Romero and Lorena Arenas ranked 12th. Cesar Herrera and Laura Cristina Mojica Chalarca ranked 19th.

While Athletics Men’s Long Jump Final: Arnovis Dalmero finished in 11th place.

Colombia Update August 6

Colombia’s athletes displayed resilience and skill today.

In athletics, Lina Licona and Evelis Aguilar competed in the women’s 400m repechage rounds. Licona finished 4th in Heat 4 with a time of 51.90 seconds, while Aguilar placed 7th in Heat 3, clocking in at 52.86 seconds. In the women’s long jump Group A, Natalia Linares achieved an 11th place finish with a distance of 6.40 meters.

In diving, Luis Felipe Uribe Bermudez qualified in the men’s 3m springboard event with a score of 375.90 points, while Daniel Restrepo Garcia finished in 20th place with 361.10 points.

In wrestling, Jair Alexis Cuero Munoz faced a tough match in the men’s Greco-Roman 77 kg, losing to Demeu Zhadrayev from Kazakhstan. In the women’s freestyle 50 kg, Alisson Cardozo Rey was defeated by Gabija Dilyte from Lithuania by fall.

And the first medal for Colombia arrived! The young Ángel Barajas surprised everyone and won the silver medal in horizontal bars, beating the Chinese, great powers in this discipline, and losing to the Japanese Oka Shinnosuke despite having the same score. However, the Asian athlete was rated better in execution, the second tiebreaker. At 17 years and 358 days, he is the youngest South American athlete to win an Olympic medal and also the first medal in the history of gymnastics for Colombia.

In the rest of the results there is nothing to highlight, being eliminated in the discus throw with Mauricio Ortega, 400m with Anthony Zambrano, also in 400m but female with Lina Licona and Evelis Aguilar, and in individual equestrian jumping with René López.

In the first event of the day of Golf in Round 4, we have Nico Echavarría finished in T38, while Camilo Villegas finished in the penultimate position.

In the Men’s Long Jump, Arnovis Dalmero finished in seventh place, with 7.2, qualifying for the next stage of the tournament.

In Archery, Santiago Arcila lost to South Korea’s Kim Je Deok with a score of 6-4 in the elimination round (1/8).

Paula Patino, in women’s road cycling, finished in 50th place with a time of 4:07:16.

Anthony Jose Zambrano finished in 7th place in the men’s 400m in track and field with a time of 45.49 and qualified for the playoffs.

Colombia continues to keep their head high as they go forth and try to land their first medal in this edition of the Olympic Games.

R. Longa finished 7th and couldn’t make it past the 1st heat on the Men’s 100m.

N. Echavarria landed the 46th spot in the 3rd round of Golf in the Men’s Individuals Final

They had a pretty close encounter with Spain in the Women’s Football Tournament, going on a 2-2 score all the way to a penalty shootout where they lost 4-2.

I. Valencia was defeated on the Female Flyweight Boxing Quarterfinals by the Kazakhstan representative.

Colombia experienced a mix of triumphs and setbacks in today’s events.

In BMX racing, Mariana Pajón excelled in the women’s BMX racing last chance race, finishing 1st with a time of 36.015 seconds, securing her spot in the finals. In the men’s BMX racing, Carlos Ramírez faced challenges and did not finish, placing 8th in his last chance race.

In boxing, Yeni Arias competed in the women’s bantamweight quarterfinals but was defeated by her opponent from South Korea.

In artistic gymnastics, Luisa Blanco competed in the women’s artistic individual all-around event, finishing in 23rd place with a score of 50.199 points.

In archery, Colombia faced a challenging match against Turkey in the early eliminations and was unfortunately eliminated from the competition.

In skateboarding prelims, Jhancarlos Gonzalez finished in 22nd place against a strong field of competitors.

Colombia Update July 28

Among the positive news is the victory of María Camila Osorio in tennis against Jelena Ostapenko and that of Ingrit Valencia in boxing versus Yesugen Oyuntsetseg, while the negative ones are the defeats of Erika Lasso in judo against Lin Chen-Hao and John Rodríguez in fencing versus Mohamed Elyased.

The Colombian women’s national soccer team beat New Zealand 2-0 and is still alive in Group A.
