NFL Wildcard - Roundup and Results

The NFL elimination round, better known as Wild Card, took place from January 14 to 16, starting on Saturday with the 49ers vs. Seahawks and Jaguars vs. Chargers, and ending on Monday with the duel between the Buccaneers and Cowboys.

Eagles and Chiefs had already advanced straight to the Divisional Playoffs due to their regular season performance, reaching the highest number of victories among any team in the conference.

Wild Card games are life and death. Those who lose are on the way and can already plan for the following season. Whoever wins, in a single game, advances and puts himself to the test among the best teams in the league. The 49ers, Jaguars, Bills, Giants, Bengals, and Cowboys advanced to the next round.

Let’s get to know the result of each of these matches.

Wildcard Results:

  • 49ers 41 – 23 Seahawks

  •  Bills 34 – 31 Dolphins
  •  Vikings 24 – 31 Giants

The Wild Card weekend started as expected with the Locals 49ers dominating a Seahawks side that came without much hope. However, it wasn’t easy at the beginning.

Brock Purdy had an excellent game for a playoff debutant with 3 touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown. In the first half tough, even if Seattle was incapable of marking him appropriately, his nervousness was evident with some sloppy passes. This caused the first two quarters to end with a tight result.

However, in the second half, the rookie took advantage of the defensive weakness of the visitors and made a great performance to guide his side to victory. Now the 49ers have the mission of, at least, matching last season’s performance and reaching the Conference Finals.

Jaguars and Chargers played Saturday’s main Wildcard game in front of over 70,000 spectators. Even playing in their territory, the Jaguars struggled to score the first points of the game.

In addition to not scoring the first points, the Jaguars lost the first quarter by 17-0, leaving their fans worried about the team’s performance.

They still lost the second quarter, but recovered in the third and fourth and were victorious with one point of difference. This was a Wildcard-worthy match, with excitement from start to finish.

The bills and Dolphins had the most exciting match of Sunday’s Wildcard. The hosts devastatingly started the match, winning the first half 14-0 and showing why they are considered one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl.

The Dolphins reacted in the second half and won by 17-6, balancing the match for a period, but soon succumbed to an opponent thirsty for victory and supported by the crowd.

The Bills remain one of the best teams in the NFL and at this point, only the Eagles or Chiefs may be able to stop them.

The main surprise of the round came from Minnesota, as one of the best teams of the regular season fell dramatically in a playoff round to forget. The Vikings cause some worries when they lost as they seemed awful but, even if this defeat wasn’t as heavy as their other ones, is still enough to take them out of the competition earlier than expected.

Defensive coach Donatell is in the eye of the storm as a dull Vikings’ defense allowed a total of 23 plays that went for 10 yards or more.

On the Giants’ side of the coin, QB Daniel Jones played like a kid in the park and made effective passes one after another. He went 5-for-5 passing for 100 yards to go along with two rushes for 22 yards, all that in the first quarter. He has been labeled as “Elite” by his coach, and we are yet to see if NY will keep surprising.

NFL – Wildcard Results – Bengals 24 – 17 Ravens

The Bengals established themselves as one of the strongest sides in the NFL at the current moment with a quiet but effective Sunday display. The game was highly contested until, in a scene from a fantasy tale, Cinncinati native and lifelong fan Hubbard made history with a 98-yard return, to get the touchdown that gave his side the victory.

QB Joe Burrow had a hard time in the first half, where the Ravens achieved a tight advantage of 10-9. However, in the second half, he was much more freed and completed close to 72% of his total passes.

Even playing at home, and with the legendary Tom Brady, the Buccaneers lost to the Cowboys and were eliminated from the NFL Wildcard. The visitors were dominant from the start of the game, winning the first quarters by 6-0 and 12-0, maintaining the advantage until the end of the game.

There was a particular duel between Prescott and Brady, the best players of the match, who raised the level of the performance of their teams and made the more than 69,000 fans happy to witness this great match. True be told, it was one the sloppiest performances for Brady in a playoff game, and the Buccaneers, who never looked like a playoffs side in the regular season, much less a divisional champion, got out through the back door as everyone expected.
