We are preparing for an interesting match in the 3rd week of the NFL preseason, as the Chiefs and Lions meet on the field.
Both teams harbor Super Bowl aspirations this season and have rosters full of prime-time skill players on both sides of the ball. We need to point out that both teams lost their preseason openers, but neither featured any of their first-choice players from the start.
This is not a game with great implications, so both teams will be experimenting further, but that doesn’t make this match any less interesting for bettors.

Why Bet on the Chiefs?
The Chiefs are led again by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who returns to try and capture his fourth Super Bowl, joining an elite company in NFL history. Mahomes has some new toys to play with this year as the team drafted speedy wide receiver Xavier Worthy out of Texas. The Chiefs also added Marquis Brown in free agency, but the speedy wideout injured his ribs in the preseason opener and will not return until the regular season.
They’re coming off another great run last year. Kansas City finished the regular season at 11-6 overall for a first-place AFC West finish. Later, they beat the Dolphins, Bills, Ravens, and 49ers on the way to another Super Bowl win. KC now has eight straight division titles.
In their first preseason game, the Chiefs played the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kansas City took a 20-10 deficit into halftime and ultimately lost 26-13. Patrick Mahomes completed three of his four passing attempts from 27 yards. Carson Steele rushed four times for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Why Bet on the Lions?
This season, it is Super Bowl or Bust for a Lions team that brings back nearly all their key pieces and has playoff experience. The Lions’ offense will be led once again by quarterback Jared Goff. Goff has tons of weapons at his disposal, including All-Pro wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and second-year tight end Sam LaPorta.
The Lions had a pretty successful regular season in 2023, ultimately going 12-5 overall. That effort put Detroit in first place in the NFC North—their first division title since 1993.
Detroit won the Wild Card Game over the Rams and the Divisional Playoffs versus the Buccaneers but fell to San Francisco in the conference championship 34-31.
The Lions took on the New York Giants in their first preseason matchup. That one was a pretty tame affair, with all the scoring happening in the first half during a 14-3 Detroit loss. Nate Sudfeld threw for 96 yards and a pick, while Isaiah Williams led the receivers with four catches for 35 yards.
Final Betting Analysis: Chiefs vs. Lions Preview
The Chiefs eased into things during their first preseason action against the Jaguars. KC totaled 264 yards (158 passing) and 16 first downs with zero turnovers but went just 2-of-13 on third-down tries.
The Chiefs will see a little more action from their bigger-name players this time, and we see them carving out a good enough lead early to take this game home.
Go for a victory for the locals at 1.49. If you bet $100 at such odds, you could get $49 for a total payout of $149.
