Team Overview
The Baltimore Ravens are entering the 2024/2025 NFL season with high expectations, following a successful 2023 campaign where they finished with a 10-7 record and made it to the playoffs. Under the leadership of head coach John Harbaugh and star quarterback Lamar Jackson, the Ravens are poised to compete for the AFC North title. The team has made key offseason acquisitions to strengthen their roster, aiming to make a deeper playoff run this year.
Offensive Line Analysis
The Ravens’ offensive line remains a cornerstone of their offensive strategy, providing protection for Lamar Jackson and facilitating their strong running game. The line is anchored by standout players such as left tackle Ronnie Stanley and guard Kevin Zeitler. The unit’s ability to maintain health and consistency will be crucial in supporting Jackson’s dual-threat capabilities and the team’s overall offensive success.
Defensive Line Analysis
Baltimore’s defensive line is known for its aggressive play and depth. The Ravens have invested in both veteran leadership and young talent to maintain a formidable front. Players like Calais Campbell and Justin Madubuike are expected to lead the charge in pressuring opposing quarterbacks and stopping the run. The defensive line’s performance will be vital in a division that features strong offensive opponents, such as the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.
2024 NFL Season
Week 15 Review – vs. NY Giants
After a couple of setbacks in recent weeks, at least the Ravens keep showing that they can get the job done when they are big favorites. Against the worst team in the NFL this season, they didn’t have much trouble, and it is a matter of time before they can finally lock their pass to the postseason.
Against the Giants, Lamar Jackson was a class apart, with five TD passes in only 21 successful attempts and 290 yards. That’s a TD almost every four passes. His association with Rashod Bateman was especially harmful to the Giants in the second quarter, as they amassed a 21-7 advantage and practically ended the game for good by half-time.
Week 13 Review – vs. Philadelphia Eagles
The Ravens keep being unconvincing, although the passing defense doesn’t seem to be that much of an issue anymore. They contained Jalen Hurts to a discrete performance, with only 11 successful passes, a little over 100 aerial yards, and one TD pass. In fact, they surpassed the visitors in all major statistics with more passing and rushing yards in addition to yards per play. Also, Lamar Jackson had an excellent game with two TD passes for 23 successful attempts and 237 yards.
Still, they lost, with defensive errors leading to a comeback in the second quarter, following an excellent first period where they amassed a nine-point advantage. Also, It seems like the team may need a new kicker.
Week 12 Review – vs. LA Chargers
In an amazing back-and-forth, the Ravens showed that, even with their ups and downs, they are a team with a hierarchy. After we complained about their pass defense, they were capable of nullifying Justin Herbert to great effect. The quarterback completed more passes and yards than Lamar Jackson but to no effect. Herbert scored a TD on the run at the beginning of the game but had a discrete performance from then onwards.
Meanwhile, as we said, statistically, Jackson was less than his rival, except for the fact that he completed two TD passes with no interceptions and had a much higher pass conversion rate. He also converted a TD on the rush to complete yet another excellent MNF match.
This result keeps Baltimore alive in the fight for the division after the Steelers’ surprising loss.
Week 11 Review – vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
In a tense and tactical game, the Ravens fell short against their main divisional rivals. They now must wait for the Steelers’ form to crash down to have a chance of leading the division. We said last week that Baltimore had many issues with passing defense, and they seem to have read us. They contained Rusell Wilson pretty well, but a series of defensive errors left the field open for Chris Boswell to win the game based on field goals. It was a weird match, nevertheless.
Lamar Jackson also had a game below expectations, with only one TD pass and being intercepted once, being his worst performance this season.
Week 10 Review – vs. Cincinnati Bengals
The Ravens achieved a great victory against the Bengals, crushing the hopes of a division rival and keeping things close with the Steelers at the same time. The game ended with a magnificent comeback by the locals in the fourth quarter but didn’t come without a fight. Between the two teams, they scored 34 points in that last period, and both teams were going in an incredible back-and-forth.
The excellent rushing game of the Ravens was key, but it’s impossible not to speak about Lamar Jackson. Then again, Joe Burrow had one of the best games of his life, and the MVP contender said: “Not on my watch.” 25 successful passes, 290 aerial yards, and 4 TD passes were his numbers. If we have to point something out, it is that Baltimore has a serious issue with pass defense, letting opposing QBs show their best time and time again, with Jameis Winston being the most humbling example.
If they want to reach the Super Bowl, it’s more than likely they’ll have to face the Chiefs at some point. A clash against Mahomes & Co., with those flaws, is a recipe for disaster.
Week 9 Review – vs. Denver Broncos
The Ravens responded immediately after their slip against the Browns, obliterating the Broncos in Baltimore by allowing them zero points in three of the four quarters. Meanwhile, the locals were unstoppable in the second and third periods, with Jackson, Flowers, and Henry having magnificent games, helping their team surpass Denver in all departments.
Now, referring to Lamar Jackson, the MVP veteran is nearing closer to another accolade in his illustrious career, sharing +300 odds to get the trophy with Josh Allen.
Week 8 Review – vs. Cleveland Browns
The Ravens fell victim to the biggest surprise of week 8, falling to the Cleveland Browns thanks, greatly, to the excellent debut of Jameis Winston following Watson’s injury. With less than one minute to go, Winston made a pass that found Cedric Tillman, who scored his second TD of the night.
The defensive issues of the Ravens’ secondary were evident, as injuries to Brent Urban and Michael Pierce left the team short on manpower at the back. Other Injuries, such as those of Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins, prepared the way for Winston to have a great debut.
Week 7 Review – vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Ravens confirmed their revival with another excellent victory and established behind the Chiefs in the conference, sharing the same record as the Bills and the surprising Texans. Lamar Jackson keeps pushing for the MVP award and had another fantastic performance, obliterating the Buccs in the aerial game with five touchdown passes in just 17 completed. Almost one TD pass every three completed attempts is something you don’t see every day.
The funny thing is that Baltimore was surpassed in total aerial yards, as Baker Mayfield wanted to compensate for his rival effectiveness with pure volume, completing more than thirty passes. The issue is that he was intercepted twice.
The franchise seems to be looking at the worst team in their division with interest, as according to rumors, Cleveland Browns defensive end Za’Darius Smith is on the radar. Precisely, they face this rival on Sunday afternoon.
Week 6 Review – vs. Washington Commanders
The Ravens survived one of their sturdiest challenges this first half of the season, as they beat a team of the Commanders who have been the big surprise. Baltimore was able to contain the young sensation Jayden Daniels to two TD passes, and prevented the visitors from scoring double digits in points in the first three quarters, only allowing them to come to life in the last period when it was too late.
With 24 carries, 132 Yards, and two Touchdowns, Derrick Henry was the star of the night as the locals obliterated Washington in the ground game.
Week 5 Review – vs. Cincinnati Bengals
This divisional game provided us with the best clash of the weekend, a tense duel that both teams knew was crucial. For the Ravens, it was the chance to fix their wins/losses ratio, and they took it, but not without suffering. In a match where Joe Burrow wanted to be the star, Lamar Jackson stood up to the individual challenge and managed to not stay behind. 26 from 42 passes, 348 aerial yards, and four touchdown passes made amends for his best game of the season so far.
A Justin Tucker field goal sealed the deal in the Overtime, ended the Bengals season for good, and put Baltimore at the front of the division, taking advantage of the Steelers’s second defeat in a row. Also, Derrick Henry scored the 100th touchdown of his career.
Week 4 Review – vs. Buffalo Bills
The Ravens keep recovering, and this week, they surprised everyone after obliterating a strong team of the Bills. Even at home, nobody expected that Baltimore would wake up in such a way as they dissected Buffalo’s defense and also completely shut down their offense, the best of the league until this last Sunday, to the point they prevented them from scoring in two quarters.
With Josh Allen controlled by the defense, Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry formed the dynamic duo that made the magic for the locals, influencing almost all the important plays. Jackson made only 13 successful passes for 156 aerial yards, but that was enough to complete two TD passes and score one of his own. Derrick was one-yard shy of the 200 with 24 carries, scoring two TDs.
Their next challenge is against one of their divisional rivals, the Bengals, who finally won a game but are far from the level Baltimore shows at its best.
Week 3 Review – vs. Dallas Cowboys
The Baltimore Ravens finally show signs of life after beating the Dallas Cowboys 25-28 in Texas. Lamar Jackson opened the score with a touchdown following a Justin Tucker kick and later Derrick Henry repeated the formula in the first quarter. Finishing 3-14 was a high mountain for the locals to climb. Baltimore defended well until the last period when they received three touchdowns.
This pointed out the defensive issues of the Ravens, who are noticed by everybody and made head coach John Harbaugh look for improvement. Their next challenge will be against the Bills, a historically potent team up front that won’t doubt intake the chance to exploit any weakness.
Week 2 Review – vs. Las Vegas Raiders
In a week 2 full of surprises, the Baltimore Ravens were one of the victims against the Las Vegas Raiders. This means that the Ravens have a 0-2 start for the first time in a long time, with the most notable deficiency being in defense, having already conceded more than 50 points in two games. With Las Vegas, both QBs have successful games but with different approaches, trying a similar number of passes, but with Gardner Minshew II trying shorter attempts and, as a result, being far more effective.
The next challenge for Baltimore will be against the Cowboys, another team surprised in this week 2.
Week 1 Review – vs. Kansas City Chiefs
The Baltimore Ravens were defeated by the defending champions 27-20 in the league opener. This result was not unexpected, and we had the great duel between Lamar Jackson and Mahommes, with the latter getting the upper hand.
The Ravens will go through a period of change, as the passing out of offensive coordinator Joe D’Alessandris obligated the team to make changes in this department out of the regular timeframe. George Warhop applied a different style with more pressure on Jackson, so we are yet to see if things will improve with the weeks passing by.
This week, they face the Raiders, who come from losing against the Chargers in their season debut and are a much easier challenge than the Chiefs.
Odds to Win Division and Super Bowl
Odds to Win AFC North: +200, indicating a competitive race within a strong division.
Odds to Win Super Bowl: +1800, translating to a 5.3% chance, positioning them as one of the stronger contenders.
Predictions
Overall Record: The Ravens are projected to finish with an 11-6 record, given their strong roster and competitive edge in the division.
Playoff Chances: The Ravens are expected to make the playoffs, leveraging their balanced team and strategic depth.
Super Bowl Chances: While the Ravens have a solid chance to advance deep into the playoffs, winning the Super Bowl will require consistent high-level performances against tough competition.
In summary, the Baltimore Ravens are well-positioned for another successful season, with aspirations of capturing the AFC North title and making a significant playoff push. Their success will hinge on the health and performance of key players, particularly Lamar Jackson, and the ability of their defensive line to disrupt opposing offenses.
