March Madness Second Round Wrap-Up

Last Updated on March 21, 2022 5:02 pm by Erwin Noguera

The month that has the most basketball in the year is already here: March Madness. The Crazy March is already underway and the path to finding the NCAA basketball champion is well advanced since we already have results from the first two rounds.

With the arrival of the weekend, the second round in this March Madness opened. And the first game already left a good example of what these days will mean. After 45 minutes of sheer madness, North Carolina eliminated defending champion, Baylor. Being down 25 points with 10 minutes remaining, they forced overtime.

An unbeatable start to a historic day for the small university from Saint Peter’s #15 who defeated Murray State and keep their fairy tale alive in this tournament. In addition, Drew Timme, who had 25 points and 14 rebounds, made Gonzaga wake up in time, and ended up defeating Memphis in one of the best games so far in the tournament.

That was not all. Creighton played hard against #1 Kansas, but the Jayhawks got away with a 79-72 win.

Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo met head-to-head for the last time. Krzyzewski is retiring after 42 seasons with the Blue Devils, but with Duke’s victory over Michigan State, he has at least one more game to coach in the Sweet 16.

The Villanova Wildcats are dancing the Sweet 16 (again) after thwarting the Ohio State Buckeyes’ comeback attempt in the second half to win 71-61. After crushing Illinois 68-53, Houston will make its third consecutive appearance in the Sweet 16. The Coogs’ streak is the third-longest active behind Gonzaga (seven) and Michigan (five).

Below we will have the matches played in this second round of March Madness 2022 with the respective results.
