After the 2019 NBA Finals, Golden State’s project seemed to be over, but the recovery of its stars and tweaks to the team changed everything.

What happened in the 2019 Finals may well have been the last dance of this generation of Golden State Warriors players. One of their top stars, Kevin Durant ruptured his Achilles tendon in Game 5, which would ultimately be his last game with the Warriors. The Warriors managed to become NBA champions in an extremely complicated court as the TD Garden, against one of the best teams in the history of this sport, the Boston Celtics, with a very good score of 103-90 and with an inspired Steph Curry scoring 34 points completely carrying the offense of his team.

Throughout these NBA Finals, we observed how both teams showed why they reached these instances, simply for being the best teams in the league this season. We say this because both teams managed to win against all odds in the different games of the series. For example, the Celtics surprised us by winning the first game at the Chase Center, then the Warriors returned the favor at the TD Garden and evened the series 2-2. Finally, the Warriors, being underdogs in game 6 also at TD Garden, pulled off an extraordinary victory to win their fourth title in the last 8 seasons.

Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Steve Kerr proclaimed, once again, the basketball revolution, the one of the triple and the rhythm, the one of the brazenness. In a “win or go home” dominated from the final minutes of the first quarter, in which Stephen Curry continued to exhibit without any complexity.

But, it was the TD Garden, the temple of the Celtics, who are very difficult to beat on their home court. The Celtics started the game with their foot on the gas and managed to put a distance of 10 points thanks to the accurate shooting of their top offensive player, Jaylen Brown. The Warriors planned their offense around Klay Thompson, but the forward could not score points.

At this point, the Celtics had a 5-14 advantage, but the Warriors tightened their defense and, thanks to Curry, Payton, and Thompson, managed to reduce the difference to 18-22. These 18 points, which were hard-earned for the Warriors, will be remembered for a long time, as, from here on the game changed completely.

The Warriors put up a solid defense thanks to the excellent performances of Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins and, offensively speaking, Golden State finished the first quarter with 3 consecutive three-pointers scored by Curry, Green, and Poole, to take the partial victory 27-22.

The second quarter was the one that ultimately defined what would be the fourth championship ring for this generation of Warriors. With their rookie star Jordan Poole scoring 2 consecutive three-pointers and taking advantage of the Celtic’s total collapse, the Warriors extended the lead to 37-22.

The Celtics tried to change the approach of the game by putting in a tall quintet, but, it was not the night for Tatum and company, as, Curry managed to score two three-pointers, and Wiggins also scored another three-pointer, to close the second quarter of the game with an excellent 54-39 lead. The Warriors were already caressing that championship ring.

In the third quarter, the Celtics came back stronger, they looked like the team that started the game with a lot of confidence and, above all, with a lot of faith. Their main reference was Al Horford, who never stopped believing in his team and tried to score from different places, but, when he succeeded, Steph Curry immediately returned the favor by scoring consecutive three-pointers.

With 6 minutes left in the third quarter, Steph Curry put the icing on the cake by scoring a long three-pointer that would sentence the Celtics, since the lead was 22 points. But, what the Celtics have always had is the blood of a champion and a tremendous momentum, so they did not stay with their arms crossed, and with the help of Jaylen Brown and Al Horford, they managed to bring things closer.

Although Boston managed to take the partial victory in this third quarter with a score of 27-22, the Warriors still enjoyed a 76-66 advantage for the start of what would be the last quarter of the season.

In the last quarter, the game became a little more even, it was a give and take between both teams that undoubtedly benefited the Warriors who were desperate for the clock to reach 0 and celebrate their championship.

The Celtics tried to wake up with little time left in the game, but the inspired Steph Curry denied them any chance to get close by scoring from different sides of the court.

For the Warriors, Steph Curry (34 pts), Andrew Wiggins (18 pts), and Jordan Poole (15 pts) stood out.

For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown (34 pts), Al Horford (19 pts), and Jayson Tatum (13 pts) stood out.

The Warriors are now the third team in the NBA with the most titles and hold the podium alone. Ahead of them, by far, only the Lakers and Celtics can boast more success than the Warriors.
