The MLS regular season has ended, and after matchday 37, we can say that it has been a spectacular tournament from start to finish, with many impressive results and, above all, a rain of goals week after week.

We already know the 14 teams that will be present in the MLS Cup and, in addition, the two Wild Card games, which will leave us with the last two qualified teams, one from each conference.

In the East, Inter Miami took first place in the standings, with impressive performances from Leo Messi in the last weeks of the regular season. On the other hand, LAFC managed to pull off the upset on matchday 37, winning and taking advantage of an LA Galaxy loss to take over the top of the West standings.

In this final weekend of the regular season, we enjoyed some exceptional matches from start to finish, and here is a summary of the most important ones.

We begin this summary with FC Cincinnati’s victory over the Philadelphia Union by 2-1.

Things got off to a good start for the home side as they scored the first goal of the match through Quinn Sullivan in the 2nd minute. However, the team could not do much more despite playing at home, as the visitors managed to step up to turn the tide.

Seconds before the end of the first half, specifically in the 45+4 minute, FC Cincinnati equalized the match thanks to a goal by Yamil Asad. With this, the teams went to the break with a 1-1 score.

Then, at the start of the second half, in the 46th minute, an explosive attack by FC Cincinnati led to an error in the Philadelphia Union defense, which ended with an own goal by Jakob Glesnes to put the game away. With this loss, Philadelphia leaves the season in 12th place, while Cincinnati solidified its position in third place in the East.

Orlando City was surprised at home by Atlanta United in this match and ended up losing 1-2.

Atlanta had a spectacular start to the match, as they were attacking left and right. After a few dangerous chances, they opened the scoring in the 7th minute, with a great goal scored by Saba Lobzhanidze.

Then, nine minutes later, Jamal Thiaré scored the second goal for Atlanta United, which undoubtedly gave them great peace of mind at that moment.

Orlando City took the baton and started attacking Atlanta’s defense from all sides, but, their striker was not able to beeffective enough to score at least one goal. However, in the 42′ minute, they managed to get closer to the scoreboard 1-2 thanks to Martín Ojeda’s goal, which undoubtedly gave them some breathing space in this home game.

In the end, Atlanta United took the 2-1 win to climb to ninth place in the standings and secure their place in the Wild Card match.

Montreal made its home ground respected by takinga stupendous victory over NYC FC with a solid 2-0 scoreline. Although they were underdogs, the team played flawlessly and, as a result, secured eighth place in the standings and a spot in the Wild Card game, where they will play Atlanta United.

While NYC FC dominated the match, the effectiveness of the local forwards was exceptional. In the 18th minute, Caden Clark scored the team’s first goal to give them much more peace of mind for the rest of the match.

Then, in the 45+1′, Venezuelan Josef Martinez scored the final 2-0 to lead his team to victory.

In the second half, we enjoyed a back-and-forth game, but the teams were unable to do any damage to each other.

Finally, we close this summary with one of the surprise results of this last day of the MLS regular season. Charlotte FC achieved an impressive away win over DC United with a score of 3-0.

The capital team had in their hands the chance to stay alive in the season and, at the very least, secure their Wild Card berth. However, their performance in this match was pathetic and they ended up conceding at home with a terrible drubbing.

After a back-and-forth first half, with few chances on either side, the teams were prepared to give us a spectacular game in the last 45 minutes, specifically Charlotte FC.

In the 58th minute, Pep Biel scored the first goal for Charlotte, leaving DC United with a bad taste in their mouths. However, that was not all because, in the 75th minute, Patrick Agyemang scored the 2-0 that left everyone at Audi Field stunned.

Finally, seconds before the end of the match (in the 90+1 minute), Liel Abada completed the rout with an extraordinary goal that left DC United out of the top nine of the standings.
