After several weeks of rest and vacations, Liga MX action returns this weekend with the official start of the Clausura 2025 Tournament.
All the teams are on their toes, intending to dethrone América, the team that has won the last three championships in Mexican soccer. This, undoubtedly, has to be what all the teams want, as it is the only way to demonstrate that the Águilas do not have absolute dominance of the league.
Likewise, at this early stage of the tournament, we cannot draw any conclusions, as we will have to wait for the 17 matchdays of Clausura 2025.

Tijuana had a really interesting Apertura 2024 Tournament, considering that they managed to advance to the Liguilla Play-In, where they had to fight tooth and nail to stay alive.
After their loss in the first match against América, Tijuana recovered by beating Atlas to secure the eighth and final spot in the Liguilla. Then, in the Quarterfinals, they annihilated Cruz Azul in the first leg 3-0, but, in the second leg, they lost 0-3 and, with a 3-3 aggregate score, the Liga MX awarded qualification to the Cementeros for the next phase, based on their position in the regular season.
Now, Tijuana is determined to continue demonstrating its power, and what better way to do it than against Toluca, who are the favorites in this tournament.

On the other hand, Toluca had a very good Apertura 2024 tournament, as they managed to qualify directly for the Liguilla. However, their run was short-lived at this stage.
In the Quarterfinals, they faced América, a team that would go on to win the Liga MX championship three times (in a row). Both the first and second legs ended with a 2-0 score in favor of the Eagles.
Although this did not show their great tournament, Toluca will now want to do things differently and ensure, at least, their direct qualification to the Liguilla of this Clausura MX 2025.
