After their opening loss to San Luis, the reigning champions needed to get back to winning ways. They had to fly out of their nest after the Azteca stadium underwent remodeling, so they had to play at the Ciudad de los Deportes stadium.

But that didn’t matter to them, as as soon as they started, before the second minute, they went ahead on the scoreboard. Alejandro Zendejas recovered a ball andpassed it to Henry Martín, and the latter, with a slight touch of a heel, set up Javairo Dilrosun, who opened the scoring.

Six minutes later, it was Erick Sánchez who fought for a ball, won it, gave it to Zendejas, and crossed for Martín’s header. It was 2-0 in 8 minutes.

In the last play of the first half, Querétaro managed to score a goal after a great cross by Samuel Sosa that Pablo Barrera kicked in, but at 56′, Martín appeared again to make it 3-1.

América was superior and easily outplayed its rival, although it was still not at the same level as in the previous tournament.

Tijuana started the tournament surprisingly and is one of only two teams with a perfect score. They had won 1-2 against Querétaro and now beat Chivas 4-2.

Juan Carlos Osorio’s team took the lead at 26′ after Joe Corona’s cross from the right crossed the entire area and found Domingo Blanco.

Guadalajara had its clear opportunities, such as shots that hit the post or the two disallowed goals by Chicharito Hernández, while the Xolos took advantage by increasing the lead at 64′ through a header by the recently-entered Raúl Zúñiga.

Chivas got back into the match five minutes later with a low shot by Cade Cowell, but it was a mirage. At 80′, a foul on Zúñiga resulted in a penalty kick, and it was Christian Rivera who made it 3-1, while Zúñiga himself made it 4-1 at 90+3 after pushing in a pass from Jesús Vega.

In the last play, a mistake by the local defense resulted in a goal by Armando González to make the score 4-2. Tijuana is the leader of the Liga MX with six points out of a possible six, while Guadalajara has only one.

At the Jalisco Stadium, Atlas and Tigres shared a point after their 1-1 draw, the second for the Zorros, while the Felines now have four points.

Atlas took the lead at minute 42 with a great goal by Raymundo Fulgencio. In a set-up play, the midfielder took a short corner kick with Jhon Murillo, who gave the ball back to Fulgencio for him to shoot from the side and put it into the corner of Carlos Rodríguez’s goal.

However, at 52′, a gross error between the defense and the goalkeeper of the Zorros allowed Nicolás Ibáñez to score the equalizer, which would be the definitive one.

And the match that closed the date was the one that brought the biggest surprise. Cruz Azul showed that it isa very strong candidate to be champion and crushed Monterrey, as visitors, with a resounding 0-4 win.

The first goal came after 14 minutes with a great header by Nacho Rivero, while Carlos Rotondi would increase the lead with a penalty to make it 0-2 in the first half.

At 50′, Rotondi would appear again with a beautiful definition over the goalkeeper Esteban Andrada, and at 76′ it would be Ángel Sepúlveda’s turn with a shot to the far post that left the rival goalkeeper motionless.

A resounding 0-4 victory for Cruz Azul, who led the league with six points, five goals scored, and none conceded. For their part, Monterrey, who are still without Óliver Torres, has three points.
