Liga MX Matchday 5: Mazatlán 1-2 León
Mazatlán 2.43 | León 2.72 | Draw Offs: 3.44 |
Club León has been the surprise of this Clausura MX tournament, not only because of the addition of James RodrÃguez but also due to their impressive level of play. They secured a 1-2 victory over Mazatlán, making it four wins in four matches.
They took an early lead. Just four minutes in, a pass from Stiven Barreiro was cleverly left by Rodrigo EcheverrÃa, allowing Emiliano Rigoni to finish smoothly for the 0-1.
Five minutes later, a lethal counterattack from ‘La Fiera’ saw Edgar Guerra set up Ettson Ayón with a backheel pass, and the Mexican striker made it 0-2.
Things became even more difficult for the ‘Cañoneros’ before halftime when defender Facundo Almada was shown a red card. However, just after the break, Colombian Nicolás Benedetti pulled one back with a well-executed finish inside the box.
Despite being down a man, Mazatlán kept pushing forward. The numerical disadvantage was eventually evened out when Carlos Cisneros was sent off in the 72nd minute.
The score remained unchanged, and Club León claimed the victory, maintaining their perfect streak. Meanwhile, the ‘Cañoneros’ sit in eighth place of the Clausura MX with seven points.
Liga MX Matchday 5: América 4-0 Juárez
América 1.36 | Juárez 7.8 | Draw Offs: 4.95 |
América remains at the top, unbeaten, and continues to prove why they are the main title contender after crushing Juárez 4-0.
The opening goal came in the 29th minute after a shot from Alejandro Zendejas was blocked by a defender. Zendejas didn’t dwell on it, as he quickly got up, recovered the rebound, and sent in a cross for VÃctor Dávila, who headed it home for the 1-0 lead, scoring for the third consecutive match.
The 2-0 came just before halftime, in the 45th minute, following a mistake by Sebastián Jurado. The goalkeeper attempted a clearance but gifted the ball to Erick Sánchez, who cut inside the box and finished neatly into the corner.
In the second half, Brian RodrÃguez added to the scoreline. His first goal came in the 66th minute after picking up a rebound from Jurado, and his second in the 80th, with a shot deflected by the goalkeeper but not enough to keep it out.
With this result, América leads the table of the Clausura MX with 13 points out of a possible 15, boasting the best attack (13 goals) and the best defense (2 goals conceded). Juárez sits in ninth place with seven points.
Liga MX Matchday 5: Pachuca 0-0 Atlas
Pachuca 1.61 | Atlas 5.21 | Draw Offs: 3.96 |
Pachuca could not maintain their perfect record after drawing 0-0 at home against Atlas.
The ‘Tuzos’ came into the match with three wins in three games but couldn’t secure another victory at home. Despite the goalless draw, it was an entertaining match with plenty of chances on both sides, keeping goalkeepers Camilo Vargas and Carlos Moreno busy.
The ‘Zorros’ had to defend for the final half-hour after Jeremy Márquez was sent off in the 63rd minute. However, they managed to hold on and take a point back to Guadalajara.
Pachuca now sits in fourth place with 10 points, six goals scored, and three conceded, while Atlas is 14th with just four points on this Clausura MX.
Liga MX Matchday 5: Toluca 1-0 Tigres
Toluca 2.36 | Tigres 2.75 | Draw Offs: 3.58 |
In one of the best matches of the round, Toluca ended Tigres’ unbeaten streak with a controversial 1-0 victory.
The ‘Diablos Rojos’ were the better side, forcing Nahuel Guzmán into a standout performance. Toluca registered 26 shots, six on target, one hitting the post, and five key saves from the Argentine goalkeeper. However, he couldn’t stop a header from Paulinho in the 90+1 minute after a cross from Marcel RuÃz.
In the final play of the match, at 90+6, there was a long and heated debate over a possible penalty on Uriel Antuna. After several minutes of review, the referee and VAR determined no foul, and the game ended.
With this result, Toluca now sits in eighth place with eight points, while Tigres is third with 10.
