The Clausura MX 2024 regular season has eneded with matchday 17, and we already have the teams that will be present in the next stage of the tournament.

After 17 rounds, América, Monterrey, Cruz Azul, Toluca, Tigres, and Chivas took the first six places in the standings. That means these six teams qualified directly for the Quarterfinals of the Playoffs.

On the other hand, Pachuca, Pumas, Necaxa, and Querétaro had to fight for life or death in the final matchdays to complete the top ten of the table and, in this way, seek a pass to the quarterfinals through the Play-In phase matches.

We begin with the match between Puebla and América, two teams at opposite poles of the table that fought for the 90 minutes for the three points.

Cruz Azul, with a spectacular comeback in the regular season, managed to take second place in the standings after defeating Toluca in this away match by a score of 1-0.

The table was set for Toluca to play at their best at home and finish at the top of the table level with América. However, they did not have a very intense Cruz Azul with an organized defense.

The match was back and forth from the opening whistle. However, in a defensive lapse by Toluca, Cruz Azul could take advantage of the spaces to score the only goal of the match in the 18th minute through Willer Ditta.

From that moment on, the match belonged to both defenses, as they prevented every approach from the rival forwards. With this result, Cruz Azul finishes second, while Toluca is third in the standings.

Tigres UANL closed this Clausura 2024 regular season with a bang, as they achieved a resounding 4-1 victory over Tijuana in what was an exceptional match.

It all began with Tigres’ attacking gale at home, which paid off in the 13th minute when André-Pierre Gignac scored the first goal. From that moment on, Tigres went even more on the attack but could not go any further than 1-0 at halftime.

Then, in the second half, things began to improve and change drastically, as, at minute 63′, Sebastián Córdova scored 2-0, which undoubtedly gave the feline team a lot of peace of mind. 20 minutes later, Juan Brunetta scored the 3-0 that transformed the match into a rout.

In minute 85, José Zuñiga scored for Tijuana, but in minute 90+5, Nicolás Ibañez sealed the match with an excellent goal.

Finally, in another match full of goals, Monterrey categorically beat Necaxa with a great 5-2.

The match was strange, as all seven goals were scored in the second half, and the first 45 minutes were an intense give and take, in which Necaxa came very close to scoring on several occasions.

In the second half, Monterrey started very well with goals from Germán Berterame and Sergio Canales in the 50th and 52nd minutes, respectively. Then, in the 59th minute, Necaxa scored a great goal by Diber Cambindo to give the team hope of getting back on the scoreboard.

However, Sergio Canales stoped to the comeback attempt in the 64th minute with his second goal of the day. However, It didn’t end there, as Arturo Gonzalez and Brandon Vazquez scored Monterrey’s final two goals to make the score 5-1.

Finally, Necaxa scored their second goal in the 90+6th minute through Heriberto Jurado, to make up a little more of the final score of the match.
