In their most important match of the regular phase, Santos Laguna achieved an important away win against Atlético San Luis and made it into the playoffs of the Apertura 2023 of Liga MX

The ‘Laguneros’ finished the tournament with some positive results and made sure they kept their title dreams alive. However, the two big favorites have already had a taste of what is to come.

At the end of the first phase, Tigres and América tied at the home of the ‘Regiomontanos’, meaning that there were no changes in first, second, and third place, as the ‘Rayados’ of Monterrey also tied in their visit to Querétaro.

Finally, Pumas gained direct access to the quarterfinals of the competition after winning at home against Chivas Guadalajara.

Santos Laguna needed an away win to secure their participation in the Apertura 2023 playoffs, and they got it, as they overcame Atlético San Luis 2-0.

The first conversion of the match came after 10 minutes when Ecuadorian defender Félix Torres headed in a corner kick from the left.

Two minutes later, Pedro Aquino had a great moment, repeating the formula: a corner kick from the left, and the midfielder anticipated at the near post to inflate the net.

The team coached by the Uruguayan Pablo Repetto reached 23 points, the same as San Luis, who finished seventh, but with a goal difference of +5. In addition, Colombian striker Harold Preciado finished as the top scorer of the first phase with 11 goals.

Monterrey needed to sum points in their visit to Querétaro to maintain second place in Liga MX, and they did just that, although with a 0-0 draw at La Corregidora.

‘Rayados’ finished the first phase with a four-game unbeaten streak, with three wins and one draw. They lost only four games in 17 outings and had an outstanding defense, conceding 15 goals.

For their part, the ‘Gallos’ ended a semester to forget, as they finished in 14th place with 19 points, conceding an impressive 29 goals. Querétaro was the second-worst home team in the competition, with only seven points in eight matches.

Apertura MX 2023 Matchday 17 – Tigres 0-0 América

When?

Saturday, November 11 at 10:10 pm ET at Estadio Universitario

Moneyline odds:

Tigres +131

América +190

Draw Offs:

+241

Tigres and América are the teams with the best chances of becoming champions in Mexico. The former is the reigning champion, and the latter finished third and has the second-best attack, just behind América.

In the last match of the first phase, the ‘Felinos’ and ‘Águilas’ drew 0-0 at the home of the ‘Regiomontanos’ in a very boring performance.

The ‘Cremas’ scored 40 points in 17 matchdays, losing just one match and beating 12 of their opponents. Meanwhile, Tigres are third with 30 points.

What could be of concern for the ‘Felinos’ is that they have not won in their last three matches, losing on one occasion and drawing the other two.
