The Kentucky Derby is considered the most important horse race in the United States, and will host the 20 best horses in the world qualify by competing in the Road to the Kentucky Derby.

In the preliminary event, points are awarded only to the horses that finished in the first 4 places in each race.

This race features 3-year-old thoroughbred colts, and an exciting quarter-mile race.

The Derby was scheduled to run last summer, but the coronavirus pandemic postponed it. It’s estimated that a 16.2 million people will watch the Derby on NBC with an audience that’s growing by about 10% every year.

His credentials in recent races include a victory at Blue Grass at Keeneland on April 3 of this year, that allowed him to climb to first place in the overall Derby standings with 140 points.

Let’s not discount the rest of the field, Rock Your World, trained by John Sadler, has gone an impressive undefeated 3-0 after a victory by four and a half lengths in the Santa Anita Derby.

Free Picks and Predictions

Betting the Derby is always tricky, with the first race being held way back in 1875, we have alot of data to look back on when making picks.

It may come as a surprise, but the favorite to win has only actually won 49 out of 141 times. That’s just over 1/3 of the time.

If we take a look back at recent history, things look grim for the favorites. From 1979 to 2011 the favorites have only won 4 out of 28 times.

On the bright side, the past 9 years have been much kinder to the favorites. California Chrome and American Pharoh ended up fulfilling their status as favorites.

The most important thing to remember: there’s no such thing as a sure bet. Especially in the Derby, these 3 year old colts can be very unpredicatable.
