The U.S. Open is one of the most important tournaments in the sport, being one of the four majors. It appears in the calendar of the 2024 PGA Tour and the European Tour between June 13 and 16 in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
The course is 7,550 yards, with a par of 70, and 156 golfers participate, among them the best in the ranking.

2024 U.S. Open Top Contenders
At 27 years old, the American Scottie Scheffler again starts in a major as the candidate for the title, and so far, his 2024 has been meeting expectations, winning the Masters Tournament.
The first major of the year is in his showcase, but he has also won The Players Championship, RBC Heritage, and celebrated at the Memorial Tournament this month, leaving Collin Morikawa in second place.
Scheffler was already on the podium at the U.S. Open last year, so this could be a good opportunity to be champion, but many on the list want to prevent him from celebrating. One of them is Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy.
The European is 35 years old and is one of the most experienced players on the circuit, so he has that plus when trying to aspire to success.
By the way, McIlroy, number 3 in the world, already knows what it is to win the U.S. Open since he achieved it in 2011 when he defeated the Australian Jason Day.
Now, in North Carolina, he will try to end that drought of majors since he has not won one for ten years. Last year, he finished on the podium of the U.S. Open, which could be a warning of his level for 2024. McIlroy this year celebrated a title: the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, beating the Polish Adrian Meronk.
Among the top contenders is another American: Xander Schauffele, ranked second in the world and who won his biggest victory recently when he lifted the PGA Championship.
Taking off the pressure of winning a major may be what Schauffele needs to break the mold and go from being a contender to a regular champion. His best showing at the U.S. Open has been a fifth-place finish in 2020.
2024 U.S. Open Outside picks
Collin Morikawa comes from being runner-up in the Memorial Tournament and is currently eighth in the world in the PGA ranking. The last victory for the American came in October 2023, when he lifted the Zozo Championship. Several months have passed since that triumph.
From Sweden, another candidate Ludvig Aberg is an interesting contender, who showed in the Masters Tournament that he can aspire high, as he finished in second place. But as with Morikawa, he has not won anything since 2023.
The Norwegian Viktor Hovland must also be put under the magnifying glass, as well as Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, and Tommy Fleetwood; while the great casualty will be Jon Rahm. The Spaniard announced that he has a foot infection that forced him to withdraw from the LIV tournament in Houston last weekend.
