Serie A Matchday 13 – Preview and Free Picks

Last Updated on November 1, 2022 4:50 pm by Erwin Noguera

Napoli, comfortable leaders in Serie A, will play to increase their lead in the first place when they host their closest rival, Atalanta, on Matchday 13 which is full of derbies.

Napoli is having a dream season, undefeated in Serie A and the Champions League, and with a 5-point advantage over the second, Atalanta, whom they will face this weekend looking to sleep peacefully at the top.

Milan suffered a major setback in the last game and fell to third place, so now at home against Spezia they cannot leave any more points.

The Rome Derby will be played this Sunday where Roma and Lazio are separated by only 1 point after the ‘Lupa’ took advantage of the defeat of the ‘Aquile’ and surpassed it in the table.

And to close the weekend we find the Italian Derby, Juventus vs. Inter, the two most successful teams in the country, are fighting for sixth place in the championship.

Atalanta will be in charge of making Serie A tighter or looser, since if they don’t win, Napoli will be very calm at the top. They come from beating Empoli 0-2 and are one of the best defenses in the championship (8), but they don’t have a very good attack (18). At home, they lost the last game with Lazio (0-2).

They will be able to count on Luis Fernando Muriel again, but it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference. Between him and Zapata, the two stars of the team in their last good campaing, they only account for 1 goal, and alongside them the other center forward, Rasmus Højlund, only has one goal in 8 outings. If it wasn’t for the great contribution of Ademola Lookman (5) they would be in a bad position.

Napoli’s dream season is still flourishing. They got 2 draws in the first 2 games and then achieved 13 consecutive victories, counting Serie A and Champions League. It is the highest-scoring team in the tournament (30) and Victor Osimhen is the top scorer in Serie A (7). In addition, Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been the great star of the tournament, scoring 6 goals and giving 5 assists.

Napoli will have a hard duel (one of the hardest in the world in recent years) against Liverpool in Anfield before this match. However, the odds have great favoritism for the Partenopei with +107, contrary to the +242 of La Dea. These numbers rely on the teams’ moment and their capacity to leave big teams on the ground, as they already showed against Milan, Roma, and even Liverpool. Napoli is an aggressive team, and if they are effective in front of the goal, Atalanta will have a hard time answering.

Atalanta vs. Napoli Betting Pick: Napoli

Milan suffered a heavy defeat this weekend against Torino (2-1) and lost second place, remaining 6 points behind Napoli. The ‘Rossoneri’ is the second highest scoring team in the tournament (25) and at home, in this tournament, they have only lost 1 game, precisely against the leader of the championship.

In this last game, Milan had a low volume of attack with only 1 shot of target, showing their over-reliance on Leao (who had to be subbed for his bad performance) for goals. The center forward position, same as with La Dea, is a problem for Il Diavolo, as Divock Origi is not giving answers in the absence of Giroud and Ibrahimovic is more an assistant coach than a player these days.

Spezia, for its part, is fighting not to be relegated. With 9 points, they are 3 above Sampdoria, who have the last place with a ticket to Serie B. They come from 2 defeats in their most recent games and have only added 1 point in the last 15. As a visitor, they have lost all games this season.

The odds of – 409 favor heavily AC Milan and going for an upset can be tempting, not only for their last performance but because of the problems they had with Spezia last season. However, is impossible to think of a result that isn’t a heavy win for Milan.

Milan vs. Spezia Betting Pick: Milan

Serie A Matchday 13: Roma vs. Lazio

Roma comes to this Derby in fourth place with 25 points, 1 more than their rival on duty. They have just won 1-3 against Hellas Verona but for this derby, they will have important casualties due to injuries, such as Paulo Dybala, Georgino Wijnaldum, and Leonardo Spinazzola.

La Lupa is a tricky team this season. Their football doesn’t seem convincing, their defense is leaky and Tammy Abraham is not delivering at a good rate. But they win (usually) and that is all that matters. They come from 4 wins in their last 5 in the league and managed to beat Inter.

For their part, Lazio had a difficult week, losing 1-3 at home to Salernitana, and also Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, through suspension, who joined his captain and star, Ciro Immobile, injured. A tough outlook for Maurizio Sarri’s team that lost in the last derby (3-0) and the last time they won it as a visitor was on April 30, 2017.

The home status shouldn’t have that much weight in a game between teams that play on the same ground, as there is no travel to worry about. However, as we all know, football isn’t that simple. The odds of -102 favor heavily Rome, so we go for them.

Roma vs. Lazio Betting Pick: Roma

Serie A Matchday 13: Juventus vs. Inter

When:

Sunday, November 6 at 3:45 pm ET at the Juventus Stadium

Moneyline odds:

Juventus +200

Inter +138

Draw Offs:

The Derby d’Italia comes with Inter in sixth place and Juventus in seventh. The locals have alternated good performances with bad performances. However, in their last 3 games in Serie A, they won, scoring 6 goals and conceding none. In addition, for the local championship, they do not know defeat at home.

Inter has been improving greatly and has now gone 7 games undefeated with 6 wins and only 1 draw, against Barcelona (3-3) as a visitor in the Champions League. The bad news for the Nerazzurri is the injury of Romelu Lukaku, who was just coming back and had already scored 1 goal against Viktoria Plzen.

A month ago the teams’ moments could have led to favoritism for Juve, however, there are a lot of things to consider now. Both teams’ mental status is different as Inter, as Juventus, is recovering form in the league and its Champions League heroics had it in high spirits. Is notable that the Nerazzurri were the boogie team of Juve last season, as they confronted 4 times and Inter won 3 and draw the other.

The odds go lightly to Inter with +138 to +200 of Juve, but we believe that considering the home ground and both teams’ moment, the most probable result is a draw.
