Super Bowl

The emotions of the Premier League continue, and we are reaching the last three rounds of the 2022/23 season. However, the most exciting thing of all is that, for now, nothing is definite regarding the tournament’s champion. But it is worth noting that Manchester City and Arsenal secured their places in the next Champions League.

On the other hand, we have a very nice battle between several teams for the next two places in the next Champions League, which will be defined in the last days of the season, there is no doubt.

Then we have that in the lower part of the table, there is also a great battle, as there is still no certainty about which three teams will be relegated to the second division next season.

Here is a summary of what happened on matchday 35 of the Premier League.

Manchester City fulfilled its matchday 35 of the Premier League before visiting Santiago Bernabéu to face Real Madrid in the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.

Pep Guardiola’s team achieved an excellent 2-1 victory over Leeds United at home, in a match that, although all the team’s starters played, it was noticeable that they were a bit relaxed or, we could say, careful, to arrive healthy for the important Champions League match.

As expected, City had complete control of this match at home, and thanks to two goals from Gündogan in the 19th and 27th minutes, the team could calmly take the game to victory. On the other hand, Leeds managed to pull one back in the 85th minute thanks to Rodrigo Moreno Machado’s goal.

With this victory, Manchester City remains at the top of the Premier League standings with 82 points, one more than Arsenal with three games left (and a postponed match against Brighton). Meanwhile, Leeds finally fell into the relegation zone and will now have to wait for a miracle to get out of it.

The other team that fulfilled their task was Arsenal, who had to face a tough Newcastle away and were able to come out on top to keep alive their hopes of overtaking Manchester City in their last three remaining matches. Arsenal, with goals from Martin Odegaard and Fabian Schär (own goal), managed to beat a very powerful Newcastle 2-0.

After an outstanding campaign in which they dominated the Premier League for most of the year, the Gunners are not giving up and will try to challenge Manchester City for the championship. With one game more and one point behind the Citizens in the table, Mikel Arteta’s men may have the most to lose, but playing away to Newcastle showed that there is hope while there is still a chance.

The match fulfilled all expectations, or rather, offered a great game. From the game’s very first play, it was a fantastic spectacle. The Magpies had many chances to score, but they were ineffective in front of the Gunners’ goal.

Now, Arsenal needs to win it all and hope for a Manchester City defeat to be crowned champions for the first time since 2004. On the other hand, Newcastle remains at the top of the table and must now watch out for Manchester United and Liverpool, who want to take over third place.

Ten Hag’s team lost to West Ham (1-0) thanks to a goal from Benrahma and is now in the last place that gives access to the Champions League, i.e., fourth spot in the table, only one point ahead of Liverpool, who have played a game more than the Old Trafford side.

United struggled to find their game against the Hammers, who had lost their previous three matches. When Casemiro, Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes are inactive, there’s not much Ten Hag’s side can do. Let alone when one of your best players, De Gea, almost completely misses the opposition’s only shot on target.

Benrahma took advantage of a United mistake to quickly get hold of the ball and shoot from distance. De Gea touched the ball low but not firmly enough to stop it. Yet another unnecessary goal for United’s excellent Spanish goalkeeper.

Although they have a game in hand against Liverpool, Manchester United cannot slip up again if they do not want to seriously jeopardize their fourth place in the table. West Ham, meanwhile, moved seven points clear of relegation and their salvation is just a matter of time.

Manchester United (0) – (1) West Ham
