Betting Analysis: West Conference: Sporting KC vs. Real Salt Lake
Sporting KC will be looking to reverse some recent trends.
They are 0-2-0 against RSL this year.
Losing in Utah and again on Decision Day.
They are 14-16-10 lifetime against Salt Lake.
And perhaps most damning, they are 3-10-5 against RSL in regular-season play dating back to 2014.
The 3-1 loss at Rio Tinto in Sandy, Utah was the 3rd game of the year.
This team hadn’t found its form and KC is pretty dang bad at altitude despite being Sporting Fit.
Then the Decision Day loss occurred for SKC without all three of their Designated Players and playing their fifth game in 15 days.
It feels like Sunday should be very different.
RSL simply can’t score goals and they may be without their second-leading scorer in Albert Rusnak who missed Tuesday due to COVID-19 protocols (it sounds like he’ll miss Sunday too).
Considering SKC is the league’s second-highest goal-scoring team, that feels like a positive, and it is enough to make Sporting KC our betting pick for the match.
Betting Analysis: East Conference: Nashville Sc vs. Philadelphia Union
Philadelphia Union started the regular season with a ton of expectations after capturing the Supporters’ Shield in 2020.
Although they did not always look like a top-class side, the Union did an excellent job of riding a wave of momentum throughout the year
While they have produced some impressive regular season campaigns in recent memory, the playoffs are a whole other story as they have never made it beyond this round in their history.
The Union are unbeaten in six successive home fixtures and are incredibly difficult to break down defensively at Subaru Park.
With five straight clean sheets there, allowing only nine targeted efforts combined in those five games.
This team likes to press high up the field, but they tend to veer away from that approach in big games, seemingly afraid to make a mistake and concede.
On Tuesday, Nashville did what we have seen them do all year, concede early before reacting and then handing the game over to their MVP candidate and getting by with some resolute defending.
The Boys in Gold finished the 2021 campaign without a single defeat at home, becoming only the seventh side in league history to accomplish that feat.
Nashville is great at reacting and even better in transition, but there is still a lot of work to be done when it comes to dead-ball situations as they have conceded 14 times this year from set pieces.
With this in mind, we have to give the betting token to Philadelphia, as we expect them to be able to handle Nashville’s strategy and break them in their stadium.
