We continue to meet foreign soccer players who are active in Liga MX; but are important figures for each of the teams. On this occasion; we moved to Santos Laguna and one of the players who are the fundamental base in the team’s defense.
Matheus Dória Macedo is a Brazilian soccer player. He was born on November 8, 1994, in the city of São Gonçalo, Brazil. He is currently a member of the Santos Laguna Club in the Liga MX and his position on the field is that of Central Defense.
His beginnings in professional football occurred when he was only 15 years old; then, he arrived at the Botafogo de Futebol e Regatas football school, a team with which he spent 3 years in the lower categories; before debuting in the first team in the Brazilian tournament. After showing his good level of play during several games, he played a very important role in the Brasileirão 2013 and the Copa Libertadores 2014.
Matheus Dória First European Experience
Thanks to the excellent level of play he had shown, in 2014 he signed a contract for 5 million euros with Olympique Marseille, a team where he did not have any kind of opportunities since DT Marcelo Bielsa did not have it in his plans. Therefore, he was loaned to Sao Paulo until mid-2015.
Last European Experience and Jump to Liga MX
Later, Dória was loaned again but this time to Spanish football; specifically Granada FC, where he had the opportunity to play for 2 years. When the assignment ended, his transfer to Club Santos Laguna was made official on July 27, 2018. At the moment, in a contract for 4 years and a sum of 3 million dollars.
Regarding the Brazilian senior team, Matheus Dória has only participated in 1 game. In 2013, he was called up and debuted in a Brazil victory over Bolivia. That time, the game ended with a 4-0 result, and he enter in the 87th minute.
Regarding this, we must say that due to the high number of exceptional players in the central defense position in Brazil; it is extremely difficult to break through among so many stars.
Even though Dória is a central defender, during his career he has shown his fair play. Since in a total of 21,599 minutes played, he has only received 49 yellow cards and 3 red cards.
Regarding his scoring ability, we must say that Dória is not the typical central scorer, such as Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva, Jhon Stones, etc. On this matter, during the 258 games he has played, Dória has managed to score 18 goals and has distributed a total of 3 assists.
