Ligue 1 Matchday 4 – Preview and Free Picks

Last Updated on August 23, 2022 6:02 pm by Erwin Noguera

The Ligue 1 reaches its Matchday 4 and PSG already took advantage of their rivals being the only team with 9 points.

17 goals in 3 games have already shown that if before it was difficult for the rest of the teams in France to face PSG, this time it will be worse, and now it is Monaco that will deal with Mbappé, Messi, Neymar, and company.

Marseille, second in the tournament, will visit Nice which has surprised but negatively since they have a good squad and are in the last place and have not been able to win.

Lens wants to keep its unbeaten record and for that, it will have to beat Stade Rennais who will try to catch up with it on the table.

Lastly, Lyon, which has one less game, had a good start and is another of the called to fight against PSG. They will visit Reims, which only has one point and is looking not to be relegated this year, remembering that this time there will be 4 teams that will go down to Ligue 2.

The PSG thing this season is being devastating. In the first match they crushed Clermont 0-5, then Montpellier 5-2, and last weekend Lille 1-7 with a goal from Mbappé seconds after starting the match that has all the world talking about that. 17 goals for PSG that has Neymar (5), Mbappé (4), and Messi (3) as the three Ligue 1 top scorers, and also the Brazilian has 6 assists while the Argentine 2.

Monaco is coming off a 4-1 loss at home to Lens, so they are probably thinking about what they are going to do with PSG on Sunday. Earlier they beat Strasbourg (1-2) in the first game and then tied 1-1 with Stade Rennais. In the half between those two games, they lost in the third qualifying round of the Champions League with PSV with an aggregate score of 4-3.

Nice reinforced itself well and its mission was to try to improve on last year’s fifth place in Ligue 1, as it was very close to qualifying for the Europa League (on goal difference) or the Champions League (3 points), but it had to settle for the Conference League. However, they did not have a good start and drew in the first two games 1-1 with Toulouse and Strasbourg, and then lost to Clermont (1-0), as well as Maccabi Tel Aviv (1-0) in the international tournament. This Sunday they will not be able to count on Jean-Clair Todibo or Mario Lemina, two key players who were sent off last weekend.

Marseille, for its part, is second, winning both games at home, against Reims (4-1) and Nantes (2-1), and drawing in their visit to Stade Brestois (1-1). They are, after PSG, the highest scoring team along with Lens and they already have Alexis Sánchez in the starting lineup. Who will not be this Sunday will be Samuel Gigot, sent off against Nantes. Duje Caleta-Car would be his replacement.

Lens got off to a very good start, first beating Stade Brestois 3-2, then drawing with Ajaccio (0-0), and beating Monaco 1-4 away. Now on his return home, they hope to continue showing the good game and defeat a direct rival in the fight for European places.

Stade Rennais has gone from less to more, as it lost to Lorient in the first game (0-1), then tied with Monaco (1-1), and last weekend beat Ajaccio 2-1 with a goal from Arthur Theate, the defender who came to replace Nayef Aguerd. The team hopes to keep Jeremy Doku, one of the players who is called to be a star.

Ligue 1 Matchday 1: Stade de Reims vs. Olympique Lyonnais

Moneyline odds: Reims +340 / Lyon -136 (Source: MyBookie.ag)

Bad start for Stade de Reims, which is the second team with the most goals against in the tournament after their losses to Marseille (4-1) and Clermont (2-4) in the first two games. In the last match, they managed to rescue a tie in the visit to Strasbourg (1-1) to gain their first point. The team will have to fight harder this year as Ligue 1 will go from having 20 teams to 18, so this year 4 clubs will be relegated.

Lyon has been reinforced with important players in each line, such as Nicolás Tagliafico in defense, Corentin Tolisso in midfield, and Alexandre Lacazette in forward, and they have already shown that they will bring a lot to the team. They have played two games (because the match against Lorient was postponed) and both won 2-1 against Ajaccio and 4-1 against Troyes. Tetê has 3 goals and “Laca” 2, proving to be a very good duo.

Reims vs. Lyon Betting Pick: Lyon
