Miguel Arturo Layún Prado is a Mexican soccer player who was born in Córdoba, Veracruz, on June 25, 1988. He plays in the left-back position and, after passing through the most important leagues in the world; currently, plays with the Club America of the Mexican soccer league.

Layún’s First Years

Miguel Layún saw his beginnings as a professional footballer in the quarries of the Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz. In 2007 he made his debut in a league match against Necaxa in a match that ended in draw.

First European Experience

After two years and showing great performance in his position; Miguel Layún managed to sign a contract with Atalanta in Italian football; thus becoming the first Mexican player to play for Calcio.

After one season, Layún returned to Mexican soccer, where he was until 2014 in America, a team with which he managed to lift a championship trophy in the 2013 closing and, in the 2014 opening tournament. His most notable achievement, offensively speaking, was the 4 goals that Layún scored as a midfielder against Santos Laguna, in a match of the 2014 opening tournament.

Miguel Layún‘s Second European Experience

In 2015, Miguel Layún was signed again by a European team, in this case, Watford in England, a team that at that time was a member of the second division of English football. At the end of that season, his team won promotion to the first division or the Premier League and made his debut against Everton on August 8, 2015, scoring a goal.

Just 2 weeks later, Watford would loan Layún to FC Porto, with a purchase option, for one season.

The 2015-2016 season has been the most special and important in Miguel Layún’s career, since, with FC Porto, he managed to play in the UEFA Champions League, score goals, and be a key player in several games throughout the season.

In 2018, everything was ready for Miguel Layún to formalize his signing for Real Betis of the Spanish League, but he was finally sold to Sevilla. There he played a total of 18 games and scored 2 goals. At the end of this season, Layún played a year at Villarreal, where he did not have good performances, which made it difficult for him to not think about returning to football in his country.

Return to America

In January 2019, Layún returns to Mexico but this time to Monterrey, a team with which he played only 1 season, where he participated in19 games with 1 goal scored.

As for the Mexican national team, Miguel Layún has been part of the starting lineup of the two teams that took to the World Cup Brazil 2014 and Russia 2018. In total, he has played 8 games in the World Cup, where he has not managed to score goals.
