Super Bowl

After the end of matchday 5 of the Liga MX Clausura Tournament, Pachuca, Monterrey, and Tigres showed that they are the teams fighting to reach first place in Liga MX. The champion of the Apertura tournament, Pachuca,Β has won 4 of the 5 gamesΒ they played this year and is already on the right track to lifting another trophy in Mexico.

Round 5, which started on Friday and ended on Sunday, was full of red cards and draws. These strange statistics show how competitive the Mexican championship is since in just one game the result had a difference of two goals to the winner.

MazatlΓ‘n lost its fourth straight match and remains at the bottom of the table, followed by Cruz Azul and QuerΓ©taro, who also failed to win their games in the last round.

Follow the results of the 5th matchday games and see a detailed analysis of the main matches.

Liga MX Matchday 5 Roundup – Cruz Azul 0 – 1 Tigres

When:

Sunday, February 04th at 08:00 pm ET

Cruz Azul and Tigres played a great game on Sunday night, with two very different halves. In the first stage, Tigres was superior, had more possession of the ball, shot more often at the opponent’s goal, and opened the scoring at 41′, with Guido Pizarro.

However, the changes made by the coach of Cruz Azul at halftime took effect, and the hosts began to command the offensive actions of the game. In the second half, Cruz Azul took 14 shots, against only 3 of its opponent. Of these 14, only 3 were in goal, demonstrating a great waste of opportunities created.

Even looking for a tie until the last minute, Cruz Azul failed to score their goal and ended up losing with the minimum score: of 1-0.

Liga MX Matchday 5 Roundup – Club LeΓ³n 0 – 1 Pachuca

When:

Saturday, February 4th at 08:00 pm ET

In general, LeΓ³n was superior in the match, but the most dangerous moves came from Pachuca. Football is a special sport precisely because of this: a certain team can play better throughout the match and still lose. Football is about playing well, but it is also, above all, about demonstrating efficiency.

LeΓ³n, playing at home, had more ball possession and shot more often, but Pachuca hit the post and opened the scoring at 28′ of the first half. LeΓ³n’s Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell was sent off in stoppage time, giving the visitors a little more peace of mind. However, midfielder Erick SΓ‘nchez was also expelled at 68′, equaling the numbers of the match at least in the expulsions.

Liga MX Matchday 5 Roundup β€“ Monterrey 2 – 1 Toluca

When:

Sunday, February 5th at 10:10 pm ET

Nobody doubts that Monterrey and Toluca will reach the final stages of the Mexican championship, and this great game made everyone realize that. Even playing away from home,Β Toluca had the majority of ball possession and shots to goal for the entire match but did not know how to take advantage of their chances.Β

Motivated by the crowd, Monterrey opened the scoring at 17′ and extended it at 31′, still in the first half, with the second goal by Arturo GonzΓ‘lez. Toluca reduced the score with Maximiliano AraΓΊjo, at 62′, but failed to pose more danger to Andrada’s goal. Monterrey emerged victorious this time, but we’ll certainly see these teams again in the playoffs.
