Guillermo “Memo” Ochoa is a Mexican soccer player who was born in the city of Guadalajara, in the state of Jalisco in Mexico, on July 13, 1985. Memo Ochoa plays in the position of goalkeeper and; currently, his team is the Club America of the first division of Liga MX.

His beginnings in professional soccer are in 2004 when he made his debut in Liga MX with Club América. Then, in 2011, he made his transfer to AC Ajaccio of French soccer official; being the first Mexican goalkeeper to play in Europe. Thanks to his excellent performance in the seasons with Club América; in 2007 he managed to be in the TOP 30 of the Ballon d’Or, occupying position number 30 with one vote in favor.

After signing his contract for Ajaccio, he was one of the team’s most important players in his 3 years in French football. Being the undisputed starting goalkeeper in each of his team’s commitments.

Memo Ochoa’s arrival in Spain

After an excellent World Cup in Brazil 2014Memo Ochoa arrives as the star signing to Spanish football. Specifically, to Malaga, where he played the 2014 season as the starting goalkeeper; while in 2015 and 201 he did not have much activity.

In 2016 due to his poor performance, he was loaned for a year to Granada, also from Spanish soccer. Team in which he was only 1 season; since, in 2017 it was announced that Memo Ochoa signed a contract for three seasons with Standard Liege, of Belgian soccer.

Return to México

After ending his contract with Liège, in 2019 Club America confirmed that after 8 years Guillermo Ochoa would take over the Aguilas networks again.

Memo Ochoa has been a goalkeeper benchmark in the Mexican soccer team, since 2005 he has been the undisputed goalkeeper of each of the competitions in which he has participated with the Mexico uniform, either in the senior team or in the minor teams.

Ochoa has had 4 championships throughout his career with the Mexican national team, in the 2009 Gold Cup, 2011 Gold Cup, 2015 Gold Cup, and 2019 Gold Cup. His most recent achievement was third place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
