Chivas struck a blow by defeating Tigres 2-1 on their home turf, taking away their undefeated record on Matchday 9 of the Clausura 2023.

The match promised more than it should have, as Chivas took the lead in the second minute. Gilberto Sepúlveda rose in the air to score the 1-0 lead.

Chivas showed excellent soccer and gradually intrigued Nahuel Guzmán’s goal. Then, at minute 12, the Argentinean goalkeeper stopped a powerful shot by Daniel Ríos with two fists in a warning that foreshadowed something surprising.

At minute 33, Ronaldo Cisneros widened the window with a beautiful goal, cutting inside the area to shoot into the corner with a ball that was completely unreachable for the felines’ goalkeeper. Then, in the second half, things seemed to change for Tigres, who, at minute 55′, came close to scoring through Sebastián Córdova, but Miguel Jiménez managed to deflect the ball off the goal line.

In the final stretch of the match, Tigres found the opportunity they had been looking for. Chivas conceded a penalty after a handball on a header by Luis Quiñones. Nicolás Ibáñez took the ball and scored 1-2 to revive his team in the final minutes, however, the time was not enough to avoid defeat.

Result: Tigres (1) – (2) Chivas

América remains undefeated. It is the only team in the Clausura 2023 Tournament that still maintains that label. However, on the night of Saturday, February 25, they left the Jalisco Stadium with a bitter taste in their mouth, as they took a 2-0 lead but were unable to hold on to it. In the end, they had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Atlas, a team that has now gone eight games without a victory.

It was a match of expectation that began with approaches from both sides. Still, América opened the scoring at minute 31, thanks to Jonathan Rodríguez, with a right-footed shot that left Colombian goalkeeper Camilo Vargas with no chance.

Atlas was hurt and tried to respond, but at minute 40′, Henry Martín, after a filtered pass, made it 2-0 for América, taking his tally to ten goals so far in the tournament. Then, just when we all thought the score would go to the break, Atlas scored a stoppage-time goal at 45+3′, thanks to Brian Lozano.

The beginning of the second half passed without any glory, and in the 68th minute, Lozano beat América’s goalkeeper again to make the score 2-2.

Result: Atlas (2) – (2) América

In just four minutes, Tijuana achieved its second victory of the Clausura 2023 Tournament after beating Liga MX champion Pachuca, who, after leading the general table in the first few rounds, have started to fall behind, placing them in sixth position in the general table with 16 points.

The team coached by Miguel Herrera, led by goals from Lisandro López and Alexis Canelo, won tonight at the Estadio Caliente, a field where they have managed to get three points, placing them in 12th place in the standings with 12 units.

There was little excitement in the match, of that, there is no doubt. Pachuca was not the aggressive and offensive team they usually are, and Tijuana took advantage of set pieces, where they caught the Pachuca defense off guard, to score the two goals that gave them the three points.

Lisandro López was in charge of opening the scoring at minute 26′. From a corner kick, the ball was given to him at the height of the penalty spot, and without letting it drop, he shot with his right foot to send it into the back of the net and put the score at 1-0. Four minutes later, Silvio Martínez sent in a cross that Alexis Canelo twice shot into the net for the match’s second goal.

Result: Pachuca (0) – (2) Tijuana
