The Matchday 16 on the Liga MX Clausura has just been wrapped up and the results, pretty much, seal the scoreboards, as we get a clear view of the teams who will make it to the playoffs and straight to the final series.
With this being the second to last matchday, we can only expect minor changes after the results we got from this weekend’s matches.
The teams at the top were our focus, and they managed to keep things exciting, as we still have one more matchday and a possibility for things to switch around on the scoreboard, most specifically, at the top 5 and the last playoff spots.
Monterrey managed to seal their place at the top with their victory over Mazatlan; who, as expected, didn’t represent a challenge for them, being the weakest team on the whole campaign.
Toluca, Guadalajara, and America are close to each other, so whatever happens this next matchday will likely reorder these 3 from their current spot.
For now, let us break down the results we got on the great matches that took place this last weekend in round 16.

The Felines managed to defeat Puebla with the minimum difference thanks to a penalty shoot by André-Pierre Gignac.
Robert Dante Siboldi’s Tigres opened the 16th round of the Clausura with their victory, after having to put their hopes in André-Pierre Gignac, who was not a starter in the game, and who scored in the second half after getting a penalty shot.
The match was not nearly the one that Pumas expected, as they couldn’t control the match and make a statement until the French player managed to take over and hand them the 3 points for the scoreboard.

Where can I watch it?
A very fought game, where both teams had their chances, but only Monterrey could be effective. Mazatlán gave a couple of scares to Rayados, but it didn’t go anywhere.
It was the leader, Monterrey, who not only took their chances but managed to break down their opponents and secure the first spot on the scoreboard after Maxi Meza and Erick Aguirre scored.
This is a moment of relief after the harsh defeat at the hands of Santos in their previous match at the BBVA Stadium.
Result: Mazatlan 0 – Monterrey 2

Where can I watch it?
The rivalry between these two teams began back on July 1st, 1962 when Pumas made their 1st division debut with a 2-0 loss at the hands of America.
It wasn’t until the decade of the 80s that this clash took on the title of a “Clásico”.
In their most recent meeting, both teams managed to score once each, which made this match end up on a 1-1 draw between “Las Aguilas” and “Los Felinos”.
With a controversial arbitration on the match, at the hands of Cesar Arturo Ramos, both teams took their blows with the whole crowd at the Azteca Stadium as witnesses.
Results: Pumas 1 – America 1
