Giorgian Daniel de Arrascaeta Benedetti is a Uruguayan professional footballer who was born in Nuevo Berlin, Río Negro, on June 1, 1994. He plays as an attacking midfielder for Flamengo in the Brazilian Serie A. He is also part of the Uruguayan national team.
First Years
Giorgian began his career as a footballer at a very young age, at the age of 4 he began playing with his hometown team, Club Pescadores. In the beginning, Giorgian’s father, to motivate him, offered to give him $5 for each goal he scored. With his excellent condition since he was a child, he managed to score 49 in his first year.
Then, when he was in his teens, he was part of the club in his neighboring town, Fray Bentos, called Club Atlético Anglo.
Everyone was amazed by the technical quality and goal-scoring ability of such a young player. This is why he caught the attention of the Defensor Sporting Club, one of the most recognized professional teams in Uruguay. His excellent sports career began in this club.
After playing in the lower categories for 4 years, he made his first-team debut on October 21, 2012, in an Uruguayan classic against Danubio. Giorgian entered in the 63rd minute for Diego Rodriguez.
In the second half of that year’s championship, Giorgian played 14 of his team’s 15 games. In this journey, he was champion with his team in the 2013 closing tournament.
Jump to the Brasileirão Serie A
Thanks to his excellent performances in Uruguayan soccer, Giorgian caught the attention of the best soccer league in South America, the Brasileirão. Specifically, Cruzeiro, on January 19, 2015, announced his hiring. He was one of the key reinforcements to win the Copa Libertadores that year.
After 4 very good years at Cruzeiro, Giorgian went to his current team, Flamengo. One of the most successful teams in the history of Brazilian football, who paid 18 million euros until 2023. This transfer is, currently, the most expensive in the entire history of Brazilian soccer.
Giorgian has been part of the Uruguayan national team since 2014, just after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He was called up by Maestro Tavares for almost all of Uruguay’s matches since then.
Without a doubt, Giorgian de Arrascaeta has had a very good career in South American football. However, his high level has not transcended borders, and he has not managed to fulfill one of his great dreams, which is to reach European football.
