The Paraguayan team came to this match with the only chance they had of getting their pass to the next World Cup in Qatar 2022 by achieving a victory, something that was impossible for them due to the forcefulness and excellent level of play shown by one of the best teams of the world today, Brazil.
From the start of the match, Brazil was threatening Paraguay’s goal and, in minute 2, Raphina opened the scoring for Brazil, but this goal was later annulled after reviewing the VAR and observing that Raphina had committed a handball.
The Brazilian siege continued and the Paraguayan defense kept trying to withstand each one of the attacks of the Brazilian attackers. Paraguay tried to warm up in this match and, in the 28th minute, they advanced their defensive lines looking for a better projection in the attack, something that was used by Brazil, and Marquinhos saw the space and filtered a pass for Raphina to define the first goal for the Canarinha.
The attack did not stop on the part of Brazil and, although they were infinitely superior to Paraguay, they did not manage to increase the score at the end of the first half, so, with the score of 1-0, they went to rest.
The second half began as it did the entire first half, Brazil with an intense control of the game, while Paraguay could not find a way to get hold of the ball.
At minute 62, again thanks to an assist from Marquinhos, Brazil made it 2-0 thanks to an excellent shot by Philippe Coutinho that shook the nets of the Paraguayan goal.
Paraguay was not far behind, they knew that their only chance to stay alive in these qualifiers was to get a victory, so their coach began to make changes desperately looking for goals.
With the game dominated, Brazil slowed down the pace. They had the victory in their pocket and Paraguay was not generating danger in the Brazilian area. But, the Brazilian claw and their style of play did not allow them to fall asleep in the game, in the 84th minute Dani Alves made a shot that was stopped by Antony Silva and, two minutes later, Anthony Matheus dos Santos scored the third to finish sentencing the match.
And, as if that were not enough and taking advantage of how sleepy the Paraguayan defense was, Brazil managed to score the 4-0 thanks to Rodrygo’s goal at minute 88.
This sentenced the aspirations that Paraguay still had left. Brazil managed to demonstrate their incredible level of play, against a weak Paraguay that could not display their game during the 90 minutes and were officially eliminated from the qualifiers.
