The opening game of the Brasileirão Matchday 32 was between América Mineiro and Fortaleza. Playing at home, América was not able to hold back Fortaleza’s counterattacks and lost 2-1. In this confrontation for the classification of the Copa Libertadores of the following year, Fortaleza was better. America remains in 8th; while its rivals are close behind at 9th.

Flamengo hosted the mighty Atlético Mineiro at Maracana and, even playing with the second team, won 1-0. After this result, Flamengo returned to third place in the Brasileirão.

Palmeiras and São Paulo played the biggest rivalry game of the round, but it didn’t get out of 0-0. Goalkeeper Felipe Alves, from São Paulo, was the best player of the match, having made many important saves, which ensured the victory of the visitors. Palmeiras remains in the lead, with a difference of 8 points from the 2nd place, InternacionalSão Paulo is in 12th place.

Ceará vs. Cuiabá was the most worrying game of the round. The 1-1 result resulted in an invasion of the field by Ceará fans, at Castelão stadium. The team is very close to the relegation zone and this tie made the club’s plans to avoid relegation even more difficult. Cuiabá remained in 17th after the tie.

Botafogo, which came from a great sequence of results, succumbed to the vice-leader of the championship, Internacional. Playing away from home, Internacional made it 1-0 and kept the score until the end, guaranteeing three more points for the Porto Alegre team. Botafogo is now 10th in the Brasileirão.

The relegated Juventude received Atlético Goianiense, which is still struggling to escape the stick. Even with no hope of staying in this year’s Serie A, Juventude did enough to tie the match at 1-1 and complicate the season for Goianiense; who are still 4 points away from escaping the relegation zone.

Fluminense returned to its winning streak by beating Avaí away from home, by 3-0. Coach Fernando Diniz’s team has returned to 4th position in the table and places itself within the group of teams that qualify for the Copa Libertadores. Top scorer Germán Cano scored one more goal in this match and reached his 18 goals in this edition of the Brasileirão.

Athletico and Coritiba played a tough and balanced game – which is to be expected in a match that involves great rivalry -, but the hosts scored the first goal and held the score until the end.

Santos visited Bragantino and won 2-0, extending its positive streak to two straight wins. Goiás vs Corinthians was postponed due to security concerns.
